Possibly leaving the RS fold

I've had my RS for 3 years now and genuinely love it, despite having spent thousands on it to get it where I want it (most recent was in April - total suspension rebuild and coilovers at a cost of £5.5k), and it was always a car I said I'd not get rid of. However - it's hardly used these days - not because I'm trying to keep the miles off or anything like that, but because I am paranoid about having it stolen by force from me when I go back to it in a car park or something. This paranoia isn't fun and is starting to ruin my driving experience of it - constantly scouting round car parks to see who might be watching, or spending so long looking in the rear view mirror to see.who might be following me home isn't nice. I used the car yesterday/last night and parked it out the front (it normally lives in the garage, behind a large locked gate around the back) - I hardly slept a bloody wink.

Is this paranoia just me? (I'll add that my job brings me in to contact with a lot of stolen cars, and the scum that nick them and have no issues with using violence to get the cars)

This afternoon I'm off to test drive a V60 Polestar - it will hopefully give me the power and handling of the RS and the practicality of the 330d Touring - if I like it I will be considering selling both cars to get it.

Am I mad? Have I let the thought of wankers getting the RS get to me too much (the BMW I'm not fussed about!)?

I think you are being a little paranoid. Be safe by all means but you need to enjoy it.

Your right when you say there are people out there that will want to take your pride and joy and will happily hit you on the head to do so.
That said, its very, very unlikely to happen, and you can't live your life thinking it will. Worst case, let them have it.

Mate we can all live in the world of what, ifs and maybes but that's not real life. Who's to say that they won't want to steal your V60 polestar(have no idea what it is) or anything else. Just enjoy the car and live your life. If it gets stolen then <beep> happens, it's insured and move on. But it's unlikely. Why build a car to then just sell it?? Makes no sense

I used to be a big fan of fast Volvos but I don't think you'll find the V60 P hugely impressive coming from an RS4.

I'd rather wrap my B7 bright orange or something that would stop people from trying to nick it too.

Yes mate I worry about my car constantly but not to this level, that's unhealthy. <beep> it man if it gets nicked so be it, that's what insurance is for. I wouldn't be letting some criminal low life wanker have an influence on my life. There's lots of high performance cars around so the chances are slim of anything ever happening.

I'm going to start a new thread to see who has actually had a car stolen before.

Don't mention orange RS4's, you'll upset Riv, he's been thinking of one for a while...

I wasn't worried until they broke into my house to steal my rs4 3 weeks after id bought it, they put a brick though my conservatory window and I caught them in the kitchen with the alarm going off, it wasn't even late at night and I had a 2 year old in bed which is the most worrying and its hassle to sort out and i didn't sleep properly for months after, the fact is they will come for any nice car whether high powered or new dependant on what they want it for , I spoke to police in depth and they said a car like that will have been either to commit a robbery in or to sell certain parts of it, they are currently stealing allot of golfs and a3's round by me so not even high end stuff

My job involves dealing with these scum and trying to get cars back for owners. Having seen first hand the way people are targeted it's playing on my mind more than it should. I appreciate the comment about it not being healthy and I agree but if I'm not enjoying the car it seems silly to keep it locked in a garage for only the odd trip out.

You would never have anything in life If you thought about the what ifs, you pay your insurance so let them worry about it .

I'd just up your security for peace of mind & try enjoy
