Brake removal/ replacement tips.

I'm thinking of doing a brake upgrade myself to try and save a few quid.
Can anyone tell me how easy it is to get the rear disks off and also if it's easy to unclip the handbrake cable. Last time I did the rear pads I couldn't figure out how to get the disks off. I'm sure it's easy but couldn't find anything online.
Also has anyone done a ceramic upgrade themselves, I assume it's a straight change for a set off an RS4? I've done disks, pads and lines before so I would think it would be more or less the same.
Any tips are appreciated.
Cheers.

RS4 doesn't come with rear ceramic brakes option, but I can remember a couple of members on here did do the conversion with R8 steel and ceramic rear setup. You'll need a custom made bracket though.

Surrey Sam is your man Jonytek, he has done the ceramic brake upgrade.
Don't remember him doing a "how to" on this but I'm sure he'd have some sage advice.

I've got the bracket Nij. I just remember struggling to get the disks off the back. I'm just trying to gauge the difficulty as I need to try and save a few bob now hence the reason I'm thinking of doing it myself. Build is wayyyy over budget.

Which part are you having trouble with with removing the rear discs? Undo the 2 slider pin bolts you can leave one in and just tilt it over remove the pads
Then the disc should cone out with the caliper frame still fitted

I can't remember exactly as it was a few months back but I took the caliper off then smashed that mother with a mallet but it didn't budge.

Silly question but you took the retaining bolt out?!

Lol. Yeah I would have mate. I'm no f1 engineer but not that daft. I think I've managed to rope another member into helping me out so hopefully it'll be ok.

Haha fair enough. I changed mine a few month back. Probably just need to get a bit more medieval with the hammer

You should now have the Ceramic coding in a PM
My tip for removing the rear discs, as they do require some hefty persuasion, is to wind a couple of the wheel bolts back in by a few threads. Then give the disc a good clout from the inside, rotate 90 degrees and give it another clout, keep going and eventually it will come adrift. It won't fall off because the wheel bolts are holding it from doing so. Remember that the rear pistons need to be wound back in with pressure, so make sure you have the correct tool for that, as a set of grips won't do it.

Thanks Sam I'll take a look now. Maybe I gave up too early last time as I assumed something was wrong and didn't want to damage the disks. I've for a piston rewind tool for the rear calipers from when I did the pads last time so should be fine. Thanks for your help.

You can use long nose pliers to wind them in too if you don't have the correct tool

Ill try and do a 'how too' as others might find this useful. I know there's been a lot of interest around the rear R8 setup too.
