Wing Corrosion, Anyone Had It Fixed Under Warranty?

Post by Daytona » Mon Apr 03, 2017 6:00 pm

Has anyone been successful and Audi foot the bill 100%?

I ask as they are only willing to contribute 70% in my case and I'm concerned about the paint match with them only blowing in the doors not doing the whole side.

Any pictures of the corrosion? I would say 70% is alright on a 10 year old car

I always thought the front wings were Aluminium...

I can put some pictures up at the weekend as I'm working away but it's barely even noticeable and if it wasn't under warranty I'd just get the corrosion sorted and not swap the wings as I'd be worried about the paint match.
Yes they are aluminium so it's oxidisation which I think is quite common on RS4's, I'm just trying to get an idea how many owners have got it sorted gratis as if they want me to fork out 500 on two new wings that will probably end up the same and possibly have fit and match issues I'd rather spend the money just having localised paint work.

I'd quite happily contribute 30% if it was on work I wanted like both complete sides being done but can't see them agreeing to that, besides, it's common fault just like swelling door blades so why should I pay?

What I want in an ideal world is plenty of owners to say they've all had the work done and it was free so I've got some evidence, not that I should have to, they know how many they've sorted under warranty.

I had both front wings replaced on mine back in 2014. No contribution needed but I did agree to have it serviced at the dealer that did the work (Tyneside Audi).
Paint match was good (Avus Silver) and the fit was ok once I'd pointed out a bit misalignment. Even got them to paint the door mirrors while they were off the car for a small fee.
All in all I couldn't complain about having the work done as I think the whole warranty bill was near £1500.
Sold the car shortly after so couldn't tell you how it's lasting.

If the spray job is good..paint match will not be a problem.

What you need to look out for after the job is pin holes in the paint and if it's flat or not also if they have left any masking lines.....I usually make them aware before my cars are sprayed so they know what i will be looking for...

And if not to standards I get them to repair and fix the issues...if they are difficult I take my car elsewhere

As a bad job will impact the resale value.

Good luck.

Thanks for replies above, really appreciate it, it all helps as ammo if they try and fob me off.
Anyone else?

Interested to see how this pans out. Mine has very minor corrosion along the rear edges of both front arches.

I tried and they wanted £200 contribution for 1 wing. I was in constant talks with them arguing it.
Then i missed a call when on holiday abroad for 2 weeks ,and they closed the case. Keep meaning to go back but unsure if i can. My local (cardiff) audi are proper wankers

I had both mine done last year for 80%.

Check the back arches as well, mine is being looked at just now as you will likely have the same issue there and that is much harder to fix as the rear quarters need to be cut out and replaced.

The problem is caused by the older spec of liners wearing the paint away on the inside of the arch. This then bubbles through from the inside out.

If you catch the rears in time, drop the liners and get them painted and then undersealed.

Audi are not interested in replacing the quarter panels, only rub down and paint.

Quoted £2.5k to have it fixed with new panels from a non-Audi paintshop.

Car is on 151,000.
