Exterior car cover for the RS4.

Post by dougle_turbo » Tue Mar 28, 2017 5:34 pm

I'm thinking of getting a exterior car cover for the beast as I only use it a weekends. I've searched around the forum but can't see any obvious recommendations.

Also does anyone already do this? Does it (having it covered) elicit any unwanted attention?

Any thoughts welcome.

I'm interested to hear people's thoughts too. I have a plastic fitted cover but am hesitant to use it any more unless the car is spotless because I'm sure it rubs against any dust that's settled and scratches the paint.

Externally fitted it will encourage rust and paint damage, a mate of mine had a type r and bought a car cover from argos, he managed to succesfully get argos to pay him for a respray as it melted to his car and damaged the top coat all over..... bit like those bonnet bras, it will sweat underneath and promote corrosion

I had one on my z4, better to get the good brands like stomforce i think it was - they usually have 4 layers.. you get water repellent and water proof ones..£150+

I found the water repellant ones let moisture in and my black car had water marks on it when i took it off..

Also car must be clean before it goes on..as any dirt dust will scratch the paint work...again this showed allot on my black car..

Other then that i found it a pain to put on and take off..as it was big and storing it was bot easy..as my boot had no space...and had to be careful the side that goes on the car does not touch the ground..as it can pick up crap that will end up on the car

Well that's that, my covers not going back on... It's a pain though because I only use the car every other weekend so it's always dusty when I pick it up..

Sounds like its a no from me as well! I hadn't thought about moisture getting trapped under the cover and not being able to escape.

I guess I'll just keep having to wash it all the time!

I have a brand new breathable stormforce cover for sale. As long as the car is cleaned and dried before you put it on, it should be fine. I had one on mine for a good year, but bought a new one as it was sat under a tree and got covered in crap. I now have a car tent though, so the new cover i purchased has never been out the bag.

That is mine in the pic a lot of people say the are wank car covers I use the car as fun, every time I put the cover on the car is fully cleaned, I see it as damage limitation if the cover is on there are no cats pissing on the car and climbing on it. The car is kept in a car port over night which helps a bit to keep it clean, No moister has got trapped under this cover moister only get trapped when it is not exposed to air I did put a body Shop cover on also but that did trap moister resulting in fading effect which can be cured with Isopropyl alcohol in the day light sprayed onto the area.

No doubt the sheep shagger that ancestors where deported from the UK for stealing cheese 100 years ago will be commenting and will be on in a min and you will all be blowing smoke up his hoop and disregard any reply to the thread anyhow.

The cover was from http://www.carcovershop.co.uk/

Yes, it is the best cover they sell. Would sell for £100 posted.

Thanks RS04YOB, so you reckon the cover works well? Maybe it is worth a try, totally fed up with the amount of dust that seems to be attracted to the car. Do you get any unwanted attention/ people wanting to see whats under the cover etc?

You lost me on the second paragraph.

Frostie: how long were you keeping the car under a cover for?

Cheers

I got a storm force multi layer cover , picked it up on the classifieds here, I lay my car for for 5 weeks up at a time, inside a car port, so keeps the cats off of the paint work.

I fully wash and dry it prior to hibernation, then its a 2 man job to get it over without any of the insides touching the deck , never tried it myself. Plus being inside the car port means there is no wind when trying to fit it , wouldn't imagine its an easy job on a windy day
