Bad day..)-:

Post by Starry » Sat Feb 18, 2017 7:37 pm

On the way to mrc Monday i hit a pheasant and broke the foglight grill, so now the cars home i thought i'd assess the damage. Looks like it was a double hard bastard of a pheasant as it also broke the fog light mounts and smashed into the aux rad as well, lucky its just marked the fins and its not leaking.
So as i was out tinkering with her i decided to raise the front up a bit to reduce the arch rubbing, Jacked up one side with my trolly jack and then thought i may as well jack the other side up with the scissor jack and put the front up on the axel stands. This didn't go well, the scissor jack bent/buckled and this caused the trolly jack to flip out and the handle hit the door before the car ended up sat on its belly.... The door now has 2 dents and a large scratch, after getting the car back up on the jack which was an absolute pig of a job i was relived there was no other damage. I managed to get the front raised by about 10mm, only took 20 mins a side, trouble was it made the car look too low on the rear.
So i thought id go the whole hog and try the rears, 1st side came up ok with the lost a bit of skin from my knuckles. 2nd was not so easy, the top mount was spinning with the adjuster nut and as it was on the other side it was much more awkward with the way it needed turning. I ended up drilling a 4mm hole up through the top mount and screwed in a small s/steel screw, this stopped it spinning and i carried on trying to remove any skin that was left from my knuckles.
So what was going to be an hour tinker, turned into 7 hours....... i still love her though :big blink:

Didn't someone else on here have a scissor jack fail on them within the last year?
I have 2 trolley jacks, never use the scissor jack ever!

Only my pride and wallet hurt lucky, i would normally never use scissor jack for anything as they are rubbish, it was just a momentary loss of my sanity....
Im now having some cold cider to try and ease my torment.... :beerchug:

Glad it wasn't just me having a bad day. I was filling my truck up and another truck pulled in behind me wanting to use the same pump after me. Out of the goodness of my heart I moved my truck out of the way after I filled but before I had paid and sort of placed my truck by a waist high bollard. I tried to remind myself that when I leave to swing right before I turn left out of the petrol station. But as I went to drive of a ping warning on my dash came up. Washer fluid low. That slight distraction led to me forgetting about the bollard and bish bosh bash. Oops. See pic.

Been there and feel your pain when the wife had the car and ran over a huge brick in a public parking area.
She mangled the lower section of passenger doors and sills.....
Still could've been worse as it wasn't the RS she had that day :bigblink:

I think my rear bumper is magnetic as people love to bump it to judge there own parking space. I am just hoping I can polish the latest one out without having to paint

previous: RS2, RS4 2.7, RS4 4.2.
Current: S8 PLUS
