Electrical issues.

So I've been having a couple of small electrical issues someone might be able to help me with. I've just started looking at the cooling fans staying on which managed to drain the battery while I had the car at the Shop last week. That's ok I'm just looking into it now so don't have any questions yet.

One issue I have found is that the key functions are not working, this is since the battery went flat. When I locked the car a few days ago I noticed it but thought maybe the key battery was flat so now I tried the spare but no luck. I have looked for a fuse but cant find anything in the panel to the side of the driver. Any ideas?

I have also found that left parking light is not getting any power. I noticed it when I switched over to trups's drl's, thought it might be his kit but the old globe didn't work either. I haven't tested with a multimeter but am assuming no power, same as above, haven't been able to find a fuse but assume a fuse would be for the full unit and not single globe. Any ideas?

Could this all be sure to water getting into the relay box behind the dash? I'm getting in there now so we'll see but if anyone's got any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

Also scanned the car and errors.

sounds like you'll need to recode your keys. I had to do it a few weeks ago when I had a flat battery that I ended up replacing:

1. Press and hold the unlock key on a remote
2. Insert key in ignition and turn to on (while still holding unlock)
3. Hold unlock while in the on position for 2 seconds
4. Turn key to off, remove from ignition and release button.

Out of interest, are you on your original battery? Mine was the original so hadnt done to bad to get over 9 years out of it :)

No probs...

My battery started playing up before Christmas and got worse (probs because of the colder weather). It wouldn't hold charge at all after leaving it charging overnight.
Had a random occasion where my car wouldn't start when I'd stopped for a break on a 3 hour trip. Eventually it fired up after 30 mins or so. Whether that was to do with the battery or maybe starter relay, I don't know.
Swapped it out for a Varta - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360800641291? ... EBIDX%3AIT and not had ay problems since.

I don't think there's any issue with the battery, just had a look and looks new. I just hate trying to diagnose intermittent electrical issues, they're always a pain in the ass. I just tried to get in to check the relays but need to get a pulling tool to get the wiper arms off.

The headlight is still a mystery.

Perhaps a dodgy connection on the headlight?
Not too sure how accessible they are to check without taking the bumper off..

Might be inspiration to get the bumper off again and adjust that canyon of a hood gap.

I've had similar issue with the fan and needed to replace the fan control unit. It's either that or your thermostat is shot.

Which I also have the flat battery issue and can't charge it back up despite being a 2.x years old AMG type battery, so a new one goes in.

The audi tech told me the alarm has a separate battery which is only charged by the main battery and not by the alternator, so you will also have a battery low code for the alarm if it is really flat.

As usual, better geta VCDS to check out what's going on with the rest of the issues.
