I went with the Alpine INE-W928R (from memory) because it had an 8" screen (most other screens are 6" or 7", and at the time it was the only 8" available) and they made an adapter for a perfect fit in the B7 which has a much bigger space than most double din units take so leaves you with a big emtpy space around it. See my stereo build thread in my signature for more details. But it didn't do all this apple car play / apps nonsense that everyone seems to want now. It played all my music from a hard drive or an ipod, had decent up to date satnav and did phone call etc, reverse camera facility (which I fitted) and so on.
And compared to these modern app head units it is much more expensive.

Plenty of information on here about the 2010+ RNSE upgrade. If I ever got another B7 RS4, then it'd be the first thing I'd retrofit.

I have the 2010+ RNSE upgrade in both of mine, both installed by NHN. I wish that I had tone the bluetooth prep/ami on the 6 too really. The 2010+ upgrade is of course more in keeping with the cars, but that shouldn't be the only reason for going that way.
Whenever I get in to the 4, the bluetooth syncs up automatically, phone locks in, AMI picks up too and off Spotify goes on its merry way without me lifting a finger, lovely.
The only problem I have is that I pick up engine whine in the 4 sadly since the upgrade carried out to that way back when I got her. A little loathed to go down the suppression route at the expense of sound quality to sort it, but NHN doesn't talk to me any more it seems, I think I must smell.

Have you tried pulling the unit out and re-routing the wires/loom Stretch or even fitting a another earth point direct to chassis? I did this on ours a couple of months ago cause the better half was complaining it had got bad after I had the unit out to do some updates. Removed the unit again, did a quick hand shake on the loom and re-fit, pretty much no whine at all now. (I'm running after market Kenwood headunit though)

I think I did when it was first installed but can't remember for certain. Too damn cold to go doing that again currently and getting lazier with age but I will do that one weekend, not getting my hopes up though. I seem to remember that it was when the AMI unit is plugged in, vee shall see....

Go Android and a company called Joying do a quality unit although mine is not but it makes the OEM unit seem like it was made by a cave man.

As soon as I added aftermarket amps to the 4 I got engine whine too. No matter what I did I couldn't get rid of it. Even when I fitted an aftermarket stereo and wired the amps and stereo to the same earth point etc it was still there. An online noise suppressor made it almost unnoticeable. And I didn't notice a drop in sound quality even with some high end equipment which would have highlighted any flaws. The road noise and unideal environment made more of a difference so the suppression was unnoticeable in terms of degradation but really noticeable in reduction of whine. And to be honest if you are listen to Spotify through Bluetooth then I wouldn't worry too much about a drop in quality

That's great to know Mike, thanks. For the inline suppressor, can you remember what you went with? Here is a random example -
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Electrovision- ... H0383KAG83
If memory serves, the AMI unit pulls everything from the RNS-E, so by me suppressing the 12v feed going in to just the RNS-E, that should also take the AMI unit out of the equation too.
Sorry, I think I meant by losing sound quality would have been more if I was resorting to the likes of Ground Loop Isolation during the actual audio stages, but the more I think about it, the less realistic that would be to do with this setup compared to 12v noise suppression......
