Nurburgring

Post by BenHol » Fri Jan 20, 2017 2:41 am

After lots of debate trying to sort out a group of lads. I have a date in the diary for a local group of us to head over to the Nurburgring. Thought I'd see if many of you guys have done it and route you might recommend?

Nurburgring

We are going 18th - 22nd may. On the night ferry from hull to zeebrugge. Unfortunately I'm the only RS we also have a S5, evo mrfq320, Impreza sti, Porsche 911, and at the back a clip sport.
If a group of forum members want to come along it could make a good road trip. ......

I've done it 3 times, Twice in my Corrado VR6 and the last time in my S3. Not driven the RS4 over there yet but its an EPIC trip and I love the atmosphere at the Ring.

I'll probably do the DN trackday again on May 2nd. Not ever doing Touristenfahrten anymore, not worth the risk and frustration if you ask me. Convenient to just show up and drive though obviously.

In terms of route, the roads between Spa and the Ring are epic, but obviously slower than staying on the highway.
B7 RS4 saloon Misano red, comfy seats, JHM tune & JHM full exhaust with cats and resonators - gone.
C5 RS6 Avant Daytona/Cognac - gone.
981 Cayman GTS Gray/Orange.

Do you mean when people crash?

From my point of view,
Risk - from an insurance perspective if your insured through a UK insurance company.
Frustration - of going all that way for a long weekend of track time and possibly getting only a few laps in due to closures.
Trackdays only for me nowadays, maximum lappage time, very unlikely to have closures, driving standards are generally alot better than TF.
Sprint Blue Rs4 (B7) is now my weekend toy :-)
Tweeked 16v 205gti is my DRT(dedicated Ring Toy) and always will be ! Awesome track toy.

Is there a setting you can change to adjust the headlights on a b7?

Yea understand that.

I'm yet to speak to my insurance to see their view on it, they do tend to be pretty good but I'll see what they say.

We're not too bothered about getting alot of track time tbh as the drive there and back will be a big part of it. Always enjoy being in the RS as it's not my day to day car, so a little blast in the autobahn should be fun too

Your insurer has to insure you by law, 3rd party, but if they have excluded it in your policy t&cs then they will seek recompense from you for their losses which could be in the millions if you cause someone injury.

Track day FTW.

£379 means 18 laps to break even vs a TF. No brainier

I'd be wary of doing that tbh, I did read somewhere on the interweb some guy enquired about his insurance status regarding TF and the Nurburgring..... They subsequently cancelled his policy with immediate effect.

I'd rather go knowing where I stand. My risk then or not as the case might be.
