Rebuilding mirrors

Post by Jules » Fri Jan 13, 2017 11:24 am

Why is it always the what you think to be a simple job never turn out that way

Finally got my mirrors back all painted but I cant seem to get them back together, I cant get the base plate into the
mechanism part when in the cover.
Anyone that's split them was there a knack or just brute force.

Many thanks

Are you talking about attaching them back to the tabs that are on the plate on the door?

You have to fit that plate on to the car first. You will never get them on with out...
alight the rear and push hard towards the front of the car and against the door at same time. Oh and a little lube never hurt anyone ;)

Lost my reply, but I found it easier to push the mirror body down onto the plate and then put the whole lot onto the car (assuming you have removed the triangles ?)

Remember they are designed to roll back off the car in an impact so roll them back on.

This might help viewtopic.php?f=35&t=105561&hilit=mirror

Out of interest do the plinths just screw off once the mirrors are off? I assume so but just want to confirm.
