Next on list........brakes
Next on list........brakes
So I dropped my rs4 at Mrc this weekend for servicing and mapping and other bits
When I get it back I need to look at the front brakes. What's the best disc and pad combo?
I''ve used Ferrodo ds2500 and 3000 before and both are good pads.
Anyone else got recommendations?

When I do mine I am going with JH Motorsports brakes. Yes they are in America and I will have to pay import tax, but by the time I have bought them and paid the import tax it will cost me the same as buying something from the UK. However I will have an excellent brake setup that is lighter than standard.
I have already had a stage 3r clutch imported from them and the quality of workmanship is outstanding.

Tarox provide a front kit for the RS4, not sure if it's the 12 or 16 pot kit though. They don't seem to supply a rear kit, probably not necessary anyway but if I was doing it it'd drive me mad having these on the front and OEM on the rear...

I was thinking about trying the oem discs with ferrodo 2500 pads

Discs & pads will be fitted on my rs soon
Been advised not to go for the Ebc yellow pads
This time as they are harder on discs ?

They are harder on the discs I believe but did you buy one of these cars to cut cost or performance? I doubt it. I wanted to justify changing the brake setup on the 4 but when I fitted EBC yellows all round I found she stops brilliantly for a standard setup. Yes the discs aren't cheap but neither are these cars to run and i dont like cutting corners on the important bits like shedding stupid amounts of speed when needed.
If you want to see pads that are harsh on discs, get a set of Carbotech XP10 bads and some ear defenders for pootling around town

Lol, sure have. Footlong is asking about the best disk pad combo so this is a valid suggestion...DavidRS4 wrote:Have you seen the prices of the Tarox kits?jonytek wrote:Tarox provide a front kit for the RS4, not sure if it's the 12 or 16 pot kit though. Could also try and track down some ceramics...

Or just wait for eurocarparts to have a 40% off sale and get some replacement disks and DS2500's, this seems to be a popular choice atm.

I can't get my XP10s to squeal at all actually. Very quiet pads weirdly. Only at low speeds with the windows open it sounds a bit like metal on metal. But very hard on disks yes, they don't like being driven slowly, all kinds of weird discolouration patterns on the disks when I do.Mr Footlong wrote: If you want to see pads that are harsh on discs, get a set of Carbotech XP10 bads and some ear defenders for pootling around town.

Re: Next on list........brakes
You are a lucky boy, they were the worst sounding pads i ever owned for normal commuting but they were immense with the old 8 pots on the 6 for performance (as long as i managed to stay with same operating temps). I destroyed a new set of OE discs with them in under 3000 miles or less if memory serves and lost track of how many times I blued the discs too and had the brakes fall off a cliff.
