Thinking of buying...what do you think?

Post by karl » Wed Jan 04, 2017 7:21 pm

Hi,

It's been six years since I sold my RS4 B7 saloon for a GT-R. I still have the GT-R and I run a 2007 Subaru Forester STi as our family dog wagon. It's a bit of a squeeze for the dog but good enough....until now...

I've always missed the RS4. This last week I've been looking at an RS4 Avant for sale, not gone to see it yet but I would like to get your thoughts.

It's a 56 plate, 2 owners, 27,000 mls, FSH (Audi & Audi indy), new F1 tyres all round, PPF on front end, DRC all replaced under warranty, Milltek res system. From the pics it looks pristine and the company selling it deal in nice mid range performance cars. I spoke to the boss man and he said the car is absolutely mint. It's up for £29990.

Would a B7 RS4 at this age & low mileage concern you?

My RS4 was a 56 plate and I had the inlet manifold de-carboned by Doug at MRC. I called them today and I'd be looking at £980 to have the same done again. No doubt this car has seen a lot of short journeys which won't help the carbon build-up.

The car would be an absolute keeper and I would hope in years to come would start becoming sought after. There will never be another normally aspirated V8 Audi afterall. I'd have to sell the Forester to get this car but what do you guys think?

£29k is a lot for a 10year old car... considering there are plenty of good examples out there for around 19-20k... I know it's low miles but... 29k that's a lot of dough

Looks very clean!
I guess all depends what you trying to achieve.
Keep it garaged and only take out occasionally on weekends and hope that in 10years time it will double in price
Or
If you need something to run around with a dog in a boot lol trust me! Get one from a forum member for 18-19k and spend the change on a nice holiday with the missus!

Think there was one a few weeks back similar miles going for 25K, bit too good for taking the dog out in it will be shitted up in no time and if the dog pukes up it will stink for ever

Yes the seller was on here and sold it to the dealer around £25k so it's a nice mark up for them if it trades up here !

Thanks for your replies so far guys. You're right, it's a lot of money for a ten yr old car. As has been said, if I were to buy it and store it with very light use and no dog in it, it might be worth an offer but it's going to be used generally as a second car with wet, very hairy dog in and probably 6-8K/yr mileage so at that price it just doesn't make sense. Plus, I'd be looking at costs of de-carbon, clutch & flywheel sometime plus probably suspension sooner or later.

Thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated!

i thought clutch was good for around 70 to 80k... carbon build up starts again within a couple of thousand miles... drc is unpredictable.

I had to renew my clutch and flywheel at 42k. But I suppose depends on how it has been driven.

I would be tempted to save a bit longer and get the newer RS4 for 32-33k I think....

Agree there Mart, I must say that steering wheel looks new, including the S-button and bottom trims too.

NSF door looks to have had paint on the bottom though and some is peeling from the lower trim. Not hard to sort.

Can't believe it that's my old car. Long story short I was living in London and parking it on the street outside my house. One night the front seats, steering wheel and gear knob were stolen. The insurance company insisted it had to be written off plus the wait for new seats was over 6 months. The car was mint with 32k miles (I owned it from 10k) - very upsetting to say the least. I bought an S4 while I still lived in London then since moving out hunting down an identical B7.

Anyway that explains the seat condition. On top of that I have the original service book because I always kept that in the house but I could never get hold of anyone to pass it on or trace the car. If you're interested in buying it or the seller wants the log book I can post it.
