07 RS4 - Cold start hunting for revs

Post by carbers911 » Sat Nov 26, 2016 6:46 pm

Hi guys, first post here and a quick question for you. I'm looking at getting an RS4, and saw one yesterday that displayed some strange idling characteristics from cold.
Bit of background on the car, just over 100k miles, lots and lots of documented history, including recent de-coke, stg1 tune, clutch....also got Miltek exhaust and has been running it since '08.
Anyway, heres the thing, on cold start the revs started up at 2000 for maybe 30s or so, then it would drop to about 1500, back up to 2000, and repeated that for the next minute. Did eventually settle to a smooth idle of around 800, but didnt actually get the opportunity to take it for a blast to see how it felt.
I know that these engines like to start at around 1500rpm from cold, but this just didnt feel quite right to me. Would any of you concur?

Cheers
Andy

I had this on my last RS4. I never cured it, it started as you say and got worse. Audi and MRC checked for an air leak, MAF, MAP etc etc nothing. Audi even took the inlet manifold off to check it. I sold my Misano RS4 (to a dealer) because of this issue.
I really hope you get to the bottom of it, keep us posted and the very best of luck.

Ah interesting. Cheers Covkiller, I'm def not gonna proceed on that basis. It had a lot of positives, but I'm not shelling out best part of £20k on something with a mystery fault! Quite happy to wait for something that doesnt present odd symptoms...
