Hi,

Had an interesting experience whilst looking to buy a RS4 today (private seller)

Was advertised as low miles/owners and FASH and we agreed a p/x + cash his way. Then it started to fall apart :-

1. Said he'd end the auction early but didn't and then another user won the auction;
2. Was reluctant to let me get an AA/RAC check
3. Insisted instead that I call Audi to confirm the service history. However, when I tried, the records they had didn't match the pictures in the service book.
4. He said it had just been serviced but the stamp wasn't in the service book and the most recent was from 2013, had no recorded miles and the Audi garage couldn't confirm the service had been done
5. The Audi dealer he claims to have all the service history is a 5hr round trip from his address.....
6. He point blank refused to call the dealer himself to sort it
7. Then said he didn't have a V5 book but did have the new keeper part (who the h3ll does this)
8. He sent me a HPI check from last month with some other guys name on and when I question this he said it was his bro-in-law name as he did it on his computer - total b/s ?

I pulled out of the deal and he threw his toys out of the pram. Apparently I'm a tyre kicker and time waster for doing due diligence

Sounds dodgy tell him to go and get himself a pint and settle down.

Fewer and fewer straight cars about nowadays bide your time and you'll find a straight one with a genuine history that sounds strange

I'm in no rush

Think the seller got pi55y as he now realises that he could have a fake service book

far too many alarm bells set off there, only one should be enough especially based on the type of car your buying.

If somebody cant get all the details in line ready for a buyer I would question the vehicle being genuine which in this case you have done.

shameless bump though that I have my RS4 for sale currently......

Well done for going with your instinct and walking away. These cars are sadly now cheap enough that pondlife are buying them and not maintaining them. This is known as 'Scooby syndrome' after the same happened to the Impreza Turbo many years back, and their image as 'a bit left field / rally pedigree' went down the pan and turned into simply 'chav'

Go with a forum car. There are some very well sorted average / higher milers - and there is definitely the arguement for buying one with enough miles under its belt that the expensive jobs like clutch, flywheel, aux rads, oil pipes, starter motor, coilovers etc etc are already done. Or buy a cherished cleaner lower miler like Tobys

The car is back on EBay and to be honest, the seller has swindled me out of £200 as he refused to return my deposit despite not meeting the terms of our agreement (to end the auction early)

Not sure if I should post the Reg/URL to f*ck him off as he's royally pi55ed me off!!!

YES post the reg. Save anyone else wasting their time looking at it.

If you only lost £200 you have done well - you could have lost thousands if the car is clocked / no service history, or £15k+ (the price of the car etc) if the car is stolen!

Did you see the car in the flesh? If so, did you check the chassis number in the windscreen / back of the engine bay?

No, I didn't see it as it was in Scotland

Doubt I'll have to and if he really wanted to sell it then why did he get 4rsy when asking sensible questions etc. ?

This was the last stamp in the service book he sent me to back up what I've been saying

In one area it says two owners in the copy it says three.

I'd suggest he's a trader. At best he's had it a year and has been ragging around in it (and not serviced it). Explains the remolds and why he's accepting px

Edit - definitely a trader with three vehicles for sale plus a VW Caddy just sold

Shows 3 owners on HPI but that will only be UK owners, current keeper 31/10/15 first in UK 16/10/12 so my guess would be southern Irish import 2012 based on the plate, probably something obscure happened in the import, i.e clocked, stolen etc hence a lack of accurate history.

Ad lists MOT until June, actually only until march, VOSA check shows no MOT 31/10/15 to 5/03/16. First registered in UK 16/10/12, UK MOT wasn't done until 06/01/14.

Either way I would want nothing to do with it!
