Fuel additives - super unleaded

Post by hector8 » Thu Aug 25, 2016 12:00 am

Since I bought the car last year I have always made sure to put super unleaded into her.

Problem is we only get 97 ron over here.

Should I used an additive also???

Does anyone else have this problem?

I have the same problem - although not such an issue in Jersey on performance given the 40mph speed limit. When I take it away to Europe I always use super unleaded. I do add an octane boost though (about half a bottle each fill up) just as a precaution and becuase I think it does help it idle better a low revs (but this may be entirely my imagination). Appreciate any informed views on whether I'm wasting my money on the additive though, especially any views on carbon build up (does it help slow it using a higher octane fuel and does an additive have same effect?) I appreciate it will add performance but as stated that's not the issue for me.

I've used BP Ultimate exclusively since I got mine for the same reason. Haven't had any problems with running at all, idles as smooth as you like and certainly seems to go well enough.

I would like to try the Tesco Momentum though, just to compare. Don't know why we don't get it in Northern Ireland.
