Exhaust Flap Vacuum Feed Engine End?

Post by Daytona » Sun Aug 14, 2016 6:35 pm

When I bought the car I was told the exhaust flaps were 'pinned' permanently open, well after seeing what the 'master tech' did to the air box flap I was expecting all sorts. Well, no plugged hoses, no superglue and no welding just two connected actuators.

Removed the n/s/r interior boot trim and found the solenoid:

There seemed to be just two hoses, one coming from the front of the car and one going to both actuators plus a spare outlet but I'm guessing this is the vent from what I've read.

I pulled the feed hose off and no sign of any vacuum when running so assuming it's been pulled off at the engine, anyone happen to where it's connected on the engine?

Thanks

Cheers, I'll have a butchers, a few diagrams I've seen show the the flaps being fed directly off a reservoir in the engine bay.

To have the exhaust valves permanently open, the easiest way is to disconnect the vacuum hoses at the back boxes and plug the end hoses. If you want to revert back to standard, then it a simple matter of reconnect the vacuum hoses.

That's the thing, I expected to find the actuators disconnected as they were permanently open (not seized) but they were attached. I want to revert back to standard albeit controlled by a switch as I'm doing away with the resonator.

Hello, did you resolve this issue? I have the flaps always open on mine as well and need to revert to the OEM operation. Flaps are not clogged.

Has your car been mapped? Tuners like MRC can map the cars to have the flaps always open, so this is always a possibility if you have for example purchased a non-standard car and wonder why they never close.
