Ignition live wire
Hey,
Currently installing air ride. I'm told I need to tap into a non dipping ignition wire.
Can anyone help with locations (assuming no dipping means it don't lose power when cranking)
Cheers in advance
Robbie

I cant remember exactly at the moment but I am sure if you drop the trim above the drivers legs there are plenty of feeds there and earth too as I wired about my detector and took the feed from down there.
Althernatively the fuse board is only a couple of screws to remove or follow something back from it (drivers side dash I think or possibly the passenger side) there is a panel that simply unclips and follow from there.
Or look at "add a circuit" which lets you piggyback off an existing circuit with a fused connection accessible from the fuse board rather than under the panels.

Yes the fuse board is behind the drivers side dash end cover which just pops off.

Re: Ignition live wire
Cheers guys.
I know there are loads of places to tap in to. But apparently certain circuits cut off power when ignition is turned. So it's made me just a bit wary of tapping into a circuit without any confirmation.
Maybe it's just a case of getting the tester out on each circuit and turning over the car to see if there's a drop in power.
So many conflicting things on the Internet about it. Just got me in a bit of a flap haha

Can't you ask the experts? Plush used to have air rie on their RS4 and have fitted it to others. Jules used to have air ride on his. Nils and Emz and CharlieD amogst others have it too.
Re: Ignition live wire
Fag lighter is usually a favourite amongst most cars. Could try checking this one
Re: Ignition live wire
IIRC the fag lighter on an RS4 is permanently live.jonson66 wrote:Fag lighter is usually a favourite amongst most cars.

Need to pull my finger out to finish it off now! Only thing holding me up. So many conflicting suggestions about

Hi guys I need a bit of help.
I'm installing a dash cam smart power device
It has 3 wires
Black - earth
Yellow - permanent power
Red - power when ignition on
Couple of questions
Where is best to earth it ? See pic - can I earth using the screw above the fuses ?
And which fuses are permanently on and which fuse goes on with the power?
See pic
thanks

Re: Ignition live wire
Yep, that would be a good earth.
On the Audis I tend to aim for the rear wiper fuse for the switched ignition power. I vaguely recall trying to use the horn first time I tried wiring a dashcam, but found that still worked after I turned the ignition off. There are a few circuits that work for a certain 'time' with the ignition off - electric windows for example.
Edit for clarity - the ones I've fitted to our cars simply power up the dashcam when the ignition is on
