Ipod/mp3 lead question.

Post by dougle_turbo » Thu Jul 14, 2016 11:29 am

I had the glove box out of the car yesterday trying to work out why the ipod lead wasn't working. Turned out it wasn't plugged in! Doh.

It now works (plays music) but doesn't charge the ipod/iphone. Should it?

The lead its self is plugged into a small black box, which has a Audi stamp on the back.

Thanks

It depends on the version of iPod/iPhone and lead.

Early versions charged but later ones don't because the Audi iPod interface provides 12V on the Firewire pins but later iPod/iPhone only "look" on the 5V pins which Audi don't provide power to, see http://a6retrofit.tripod.com/articles/a ... rface.html

how is your experience with it working? mine jumps all the time due to loss of connection I guess, not the best design having the ipod sort of floating in mid air horizontally.
If it's a tabby cat, I'm ok with that. If it's a bit leopardy, I could be in jeopardy!

Adaptor works and the phone is now charging. The connector now looks ridiculous...original lead + 12v -5v adaptor + lightning adaptor.

Almost fills the whole glove box!
