Interest in B7 RS4 Rear Diffuser?

Hi Guys

So I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to hunt down someone that can make a custom rear diffuser for the B7, and turns out we may have a forum member that can help.

TechNick is looking into the possibility of manufacturing a rear diffuser that would fit over the current one as an outer skin (as the bumper and diffuser are one piece).

If you're interested, please add your name to the poll on the link below so he can assess level of interest.

Thanks Faisal!
I should probably point out that, if I were to develop one, it may not look entirely like those in the images above!

As a reference, the B8 unit is slightly less aggressive:

I'd be interested to understand preferences either way, though (especially as it will likely need to protrude further than the B8 unit, as it would be an overlay to the existing part, rather than a replacement).

Something like the b8 one for the b7 would be good, for me the other one above doesn't look right as it sticks out too much

Nick - I guess you'd be able to knock up drawings of the splitter before production, if it were to go ahead? Would a couple of different options be possible, and we could choose a winner?

I wouldn't actually be opposed to a design that would involve a bodyshop chopping out the central/lower area of the bumper if it means a nicer looking diffuser. I was going down that road anyway, and I guess it'd have to be permanently bonded to the bumper so doesn't really matter what's happened underneath.

E.g. cuts where i've indicated with the red lines on this pic, would give you a lot of extra depth to play with:

Not sure what others would think of this though?

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned finsih yet? I'm assuming an unfinshed GRP type material so can be painted any colour or carbon skinned if wanted. A proper carbon diffuser would be too costley I think. If I wasn't selling mine I could be interested depending on design but no point now, it's in the body Shop being tidied up then going on sale.

My starting point would be to get some 3D scan data of an existing bumper/rear valance and then try out a few ideas on the computer - not too dissimilar to the approach taken with the B8 unit. As such, I'd expect to be able to produce images similar to those below, which could be reviewed (and voted on) prior to production:

I'd hope to be able to make fitting as straightforward as possible (without the need to cut sections out), but won't really get a feel for what's possible until I obtain and manipulate the scan data.

Mike - I'd want to play around with the design a bit before deciding on the material to use, as the fixing points and preferred material thickness to fit in with the design would play into it all, as would other factors such as required flexibility (e.g. during fitting).
Ref the latter... as it would likely be an overlay, then it wouldn't necessarily need to be very flexible, although I'd probably shy away from GRP as it would be bonded to the existing PU/PP unit (so a smooth inner surface may help with that, which GRP wouldn't necessarily provide)...

I'm interested in this, depending on price and what the finished product looks like. The first pics Faisal posted look good, the others, not so.....
