Stock Exhaust with Centre Resonator Delete

After 5 years of owning the car I finally managed to get the sound from the car I was looking for.

I bought another cat-back system from a guy on here and had the centre resonators deleted, replacing them with straight pipes. As a bonus, the tips were in much better condition than my ones which were full of carbon....

After a bit of work with some metal polish the newer ones came up rather well.

What a difference to the sound though!!! I had been running the car with the valves bypassed pretty much since I got it but now the sound is on whole different level.

So good that I have just spent 2 hours driving round the Borders with the windows down......

There may well be faster cars down a back road, most of them have 4 pot turbos mated to DSG paddle-shift but I doubt they would have been more fun than working that V8 with three pedals and a stick.

The car was epic..... and THAT noise!!!!!

Big thank you to the members who have posted their exhaust mods before me (that's mostly you MikeFish), just wish I had done it myself sooner! Better late than never though.

Did I mention the noise? Going to have to bury me in that thing.... :D

I said it was a great mod! Im sure you've heard me say that it took me ages to get the perfect sound and spent thousands and ended up with probably the simplest and cheapest! Glad you're enjoying it too.
I've done the same mod on my RS6 now amd it has made an amazing difference too.

And you were right! Only other exhaust on my radar would be the JHM Res setup and only then for performance gains.

I saw a blue C7 RS6 a couple of weeks ago on a very wet Friday night. Lets just say I don't think he had switched his ESP off as it seemed to be struggling to get the power down through the corners despite the four wheel drive.

It was bloody quick in a straight line though and the crackle on the upshifts made me laugh out loud!

And they really do look the part.

I did this and happy with it; JHM piggies, oem resonator delete, custom H, new inline "light" resonators to clean up rasp... Pretty damn good. If I do something then likely do the GMG cat back. Just heard it the other week from my RS4 friend up north - and simply beautiful. But, given the money my setup is very good/loud as is and no rasp, and blows the stock setup out of the water - no drawback if you ask me.

Can anyone post a link of somewhere to buy a pipe that deletes the centre res!

Regards,
Dan

You can't buy a pipe, you just go to your favourite exhaust fabricator and ask them to cut the old bit out and weld a new bit in.

Don't suppose anyone has a video link of how this sounds?

There's been a few threads on this. Pretty sure there was a video or two but they didn't really do the exhaust must justice in my opinion. Mine sounds raspier than the videos which I like but others have said there is no raspiness which they liked.

Just has a look for one of the previous threads and LOL, as it turns out I took some videos and posted them and completely forgot!
This is the thread:

And these were the 2 videos I made:

Like a man with an orthopeadic shoe, I stand corrected! However the cost of those pipes alone is double what I paid for the pipes and fitting.

Pretty pricey I agree. I'm was quoted 250 from a local power flow installer and I was going to even supply the pipe so i didn't bother.

Still want to get it done but don't want the neighbors getting annoyed with me every time I start it!

Hi,

I've just had the ECS tuning centre section fitted. Its very high quality and just adds that's extra bit of sound needed. Bit deeper on tick over and great raspy sound up in the revs. Bit of drone at 2000rpm but I can live with that, overall great mod for the money.

Those rotors look sweet on you video mike. Think I'd prefer less rasp to mine, just the burble. Does a h pipe reduce rasp? Thought I read that somewhere but might be speaking rubbish, haha. I've done piggies so don't want mine too deafening. that does seem pretty pricey just for straight pipes though

Thanks.
The video above was with piggies and the valves disconnected. I can't say I get any drone with mine though. My aftermarket exhausts droned but this one doesn't.
