Help please with 20" Wheels

Post by J1TVV » Mon May 23, 2016 8:45 pm

Hi Guys and Gals,

Been reading loads on here and have caught the modding bug, was going to keep this one standard, but hey where's the fun in that.

I have seen some RS6 alloy wheels following spec :

Wheel size - 9.5 x 20
Stud pattern - 5 x 112
Offset - ET36
CB - 57.1
Audi Part No - 4FO 601 025 CS

I'm really rubbish with the whole ET thing will these fit or will I need some sort of spacer? If so what size please.

2007 RS4 Cabriolet.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

OEM B7 RS4 is 9 inch wide and ET29 from memory? So the offset is 7mm further inboard (ET29 to ET36). And the wheels are half inch / 12.5mm wider overall. So the inner edge of the rim would sit approx 13mm further inboard (7mm plus quarter inch / 6mm).

So. A 13mm spacer would have the inner edge of the rim back to OEM, and the outside faces would sit half an inch further out than OEM?

Ian is right. I'd go with a 8 to 10mm spacer as OEM wheels sit too far in and this wheel would sit at about the same place. An 8 to 10mm spacer would make them look better and closer to the arches and also make sure you don't rub on the suspension. A 13mm spacer would be the equivalent look to the OEM wheels with a 12mm spacer which I think is too much but others like.
And this is all assuming you use the correct size tyres at 255/30/20.

Mike, surely you'd have to go for 13mm minimum? Otherwise you risk inner edge of the rim / tyre fouling on the inside?

Help please with 20" Wheels

I've tried a variety of wheel/spacer setups, including 19x9.5 and 20x10 sizes. I'd be aiming for an effective ET24 to fill the arches without rubbing (unless you're very low), which would be a 12mm spacer. 255/30/20 tyres

Whatever you do, make sure you get hubcentric spacers. Virdee can get you hubcentric H&R spacers and longer bolts.

I would strongly recommend you try before you buy any non standard RS4 B7 alloys. The ET offset is only a guide as it depends on the form factor of the alloy.
I have OEM 20" S7 ET29 alloys and thought that they would fit but have had to use 4mm spacers to clear my callipers, have my arches flattened (not rolled) by my body shop and fit 235 30 20 tyres, (245 would clear too). But all this hassle is worth it as it looks fantastic. Every single person who has seen my car loves the stance and the wheels. So go for it but be aware.
See also FaiselJ's signature image above too, these cars should have come with 20's as an option.

With no previous experience then yes I'd have to agree, but I recall Riv and others running 265 and 275 width tyres on OEM rims without any reported rubbing on the inside. I fairly sure there's a few mm to play with on the inside edge otherwise you'd never get 10" wide rims to fit at all.

And Cov is right, just because they theoretically fit you might still have caliper clearance issues on the front. Have you tried googling if anyone else has ever fitted these wheels to a B7 before?

Good point - Audi most likely designed OEM to have a decent tolerance on the inside

Thank you guys for all the helpful advice!

From the sounds of it as long as i have atleast an 12mm spacer i should be fine with 255/30/20 tyres.

20's do make the car so will go for it! Thanks all again!

I've not lowered her yet, going for the KW height adjustable springs as I'd like to keep DRC.

In case anyone else needs to know 12mm spacers with et36 offset and a 9.5 J wheel fits perfectly.. Thanks for your advice guys!

I love the OEM plus look, just need my KW springs fitted now to finish of the look. Then it's engine mods!

Looking good - can you confirm what tyre size you went for?
