Throttle hanging.

Post by boombastik » Sat May 21, 2016 8:06 pm

Used the car tonight. First time in over a week and it felt like the revs were hanging when changing gear

I'm certain it's not done this before any one any ideas

And it's not your clutch I take it? Sorry not had that problem yet but curious, maybe a coding of the throttle body/ecu.

Isn't that one of the symptoms of a dodgy clutch switch? Does your cruise control still work?

Straight away thought the same as Mike I this!!.

This was my first noticeable syptom and then shortly found out the cruise wasn't working followed by the fact to start the car required holding the start button instead of 1 touch start!!

Never tried the cruise.

The clutch is all new but the switch isn't. I'll have a look would it throw up a code if it was

I've just replaced clutch & slave cylinder etc. Clutch switch no longer working as have to hold start button and no cruise control. I guess once removed they aren't reusable so I need a new one.

They are about £17 each. There is an upper one and a lower one and take minutes to replace.
I took mine out oncemo play with when there was nothing wrong with it and broke it then got an error code but I believe they can stop working without codes too. I'm not 100% but I think its your top one that's gone as that's the one that detects you are pressing the clutch to change gear; you don't normally press the clutch all the way to the bottom on a gear change so the lower switch makes no difference to gear changes or cruise control.

If you do replace them. Make sure you have a read of the thread that's on here about refitting them properly. Lots of people have broken them whilst trying to install them by not fitting them the correct way.

Will see if I can find the procedure for you!!

I replaced both the top and bottom clutch switchs on mine and it stopped the revs from hanging + plus my one push start and cruise control started working

An easy cheap fix but don't break the new switchs - the online guide is helpful

Make sure you get genuine audi too as I bought pattern as thought they would be cheaper :bash: ( which they weren't ) and got the cruise back but still had the hanging idle. Bought genuine and problem solved. :beerchug:

With hanging and cruise issues I'd be amazed if it wasn't the clutch switch.
