Rear aero wiper conversion

Post by CaptainLeadFoot » Sat May 07, 2016 7:40 pm

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has tried to do the Q5 rear wiper conversion on your RS4 Avant ? I saw a few articles on other forums and they look pretty good and will address the poor wiping action on the rear window.

Thinking to try this next weekend.

I got my Indy to do it for me when the car was in for a service

Cool ! Did you use the Q5 parts also ? Some of the posts I read the Mk5 Golf is also the alternative choice.

How do you find the wiping action after the conversion ?

I tried the Q5 aero wiper last year and found that it was slightly too long so it hit the rear spoiler, so I had to take it off and put the original wiper back.

Looking at the Q5 blade, I wonder will it fit direct to the existing wiper without changing the wiper arm ? or the Q5 wiper arm is shorter than the RS4 one ?...

VW Polo / Golf and Seat Leon all fit. They've been used on B5,6,7's for years.

AFAIK they will fit OK on anything other than a B7 RS4 or a B6 with the GmbH bodykit (like the B6 1.9 TDi Sport I had many years ago) as both of those have upper spoilers that require a shorter blade.

I did this with the Q5 parts and it works well and doesn't hit the rear spoiler + wipes a little more of the screen than before. I was also able to get a spare blade at Halfords when I needed it (took the old one in & measured it to be sure I think the blade is 10" from memory.

Easy useful mod in my experience

Ok I finally managed to have time to do this quick mod which takes a few minutes. I think the key is to get the pulley extractor, as many have suggestions on line to take the wiper out stress free and cleanly. I tried to just yank it out before for a good hour and it didn't move a bit. Went to the hardware store to get a 3-legged pulley extractor and it took me - 2 secs !!

The Q5 wiper I got plus the blade wipes cleanly with a good clearance from the top.

Here's the after:

With Q5 wiper
The wiping action is superb and clean and no more smudges in the middle of the blade to give clean rear vision !
