I am currently weighing up options about to going to MRC or using a very fussy friend in a local Porsche garage to carbon clean. Friend knows what he is doing but the added health check and dyno runs from people who do this day in day out is appealing

Problem is I would need a boat, a hire car and a place to stay for 3 or 4 nights if going to MRC
Which adds a lot to the total.

MRC should set up over here for 2 weeks each year.

I often read of guys who won't travel 100 miles to see a car or take it to a reputable garage. We would kill for an MRC on the same Island.

Over 75% of my cars have been bought across the pond from Oban to Cornwall.

Is it really worth doing a carbon clean????

No, it'll need doing again in 6 months.

I know what you mean.... its bad enough not having your beast for 3 or 4 days, although MRC have a reputation that kind of warrants the journey......

Could you not find a mega cheap easyjet return ticket and return home the same day you drop it off etc, and have a couple of days without wheels at home?

Its probably going to cost you the best part of 1800 quid if youre having a re-map done as well... and minimising expenses would be a priority.

Failing all of that, take the missus over the water for a mini break while its in having surgery.....

Or have the 1 day clean.

It doesn't have to be MRC who do the carbon clean but an MRC map would make the most of a cleaned engine, at least until it starts to carbon up again

Plus when the manifold comes off for cleaning, MRC tend to find issues with the intake flaps more often than not and have the replacement stock to sort them same day, which may not be something your friend would be able to do.

I don't get why people clean their engines then map the car. Surely it makes sense to map it when dirty as that is how the engine will be most of the time.

Cant you do a one night trip? Thats what I did from Dublin.

They did a carbon clean, gutting of pre-cats, stage two mani and stage two remap all in one day.

Ferry over the night before, kip in local premier in, drop car off at 8am and then collected it around 4/5 and then race back to the ferry with a MASSIVE grin on your face the whole way there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone went to Unit 20 for similar??

Good bunch of guys at unit 20. Will do an equally good job for the carbon clean but I would deffo go to MRC if you are having the stage 2 remap

I am also thinking to do a run across soon!

Wonder with so many of us wanting to go over would MRC do us a discount to help pay for the ferry

An en mass trip had crossed my mind, but I'd guess they can only do so many cars in one day, meaning a lot of hanging around.

I'll definitely get across soon though, just need to sort an exhaust out first.
