Downpipe removal/fitting

Post by JmRS4 » Tue Apr 19, 2016 1:29 pm

Ordered some downpipes with the precats removed. Fitting them on Tuesday. Is there anything I should be ordering? Manifold to downpipe studs, gaskets, nuts? If so has anyone got any part numbers as Tps are showing only nuts. Thanks.

Good luck with this mate. Absolute <beep> of a job. I spent hours trying but failed to get the nuts off. Be prepared to replace the studs with bolts as they are quite often fooked or snap when removing.

ended up letting Unit 20 do it and they were cursing when I came to pick it up lol

Cheers. Found a guide on google and it looks fun lol! Don't suppose you know the thread size of studs do you? Bolts sound a better idea.

Yeah I've got bolts and serrated nuts on all 6 fastenings now to simplify things for any future removals.

I will have a check later and let you know on stud sizes. TPS do sell them as that's where mine came from. All of about 15p each iirc!!!

That'd be brill mate. Is it all worth while doing? Vids on YouTube sound pretty good, I've got standard exhaust with centre section removed at the moment.

I would say it feels like it breathes a bit better. It does add a bit of rasp to the exhaust but you also get some nice pops and bangs too.

See below for pics of the dimensions and also the packet they came in with a part number. Unfortunately I didn't buy these (got them courtesy of TAB1S) so not sure what the part number refers to as such as there were nuts in the pack also.

Pops and bangs with just the precats removed, thought it would need to be decats?

not on mine!!! The stock cats are pretty Unrestrictive. Failed twice on emmisions for my MOT last week but scraped through in the end. Car had just had a good hammering and been sat at idle for about 30 mins too!!!.

Thanks mate, it looks like that's the part number for the studs . You don't know anything about a gasket for manifold to downpipe? Looking forward to hearing what it sounds like, mot isn't far away though so i could have problems with emissions.

Fitted downpipes today, what a job!! Managed to keep 2 of the 6 original studs . Everything is back together but car seems to be running rich. Black smoke coming out of passenger side exhaust. Wondering if we've damaged a lambda sensor? Any suggestions? Thanks.
