Humming/groaning sound after forge oil cooler fitted
Hello folks,
Just had the forge oil cooler fitted and I've noticed there's a low but noticeable whining/Humming sound that wasn't there before it was fitted.
Obviously the whole system has been flushed and filled with edge 5/30, so could it just be new oil and the new larger pipes to the cooler?
I'm not overly worried but it sounds like a power steering pump whine..... very audible at 1800rpm.
Have any of you that have the forge cooler noticed the same?

Yep, same as mine (and MikeFish) if I remember correct.
I've not worried about it as I understand its common with the Forge kits.
I'll have a look at mine when I take the bumper off once we have some good weather...

Ah.... that's a relief.
Thanks a million for the quick reply.
It's eased my mind no end. Cheers.

No probs - I'm interested to hear if anyone has successfully got rid of the sound and what the exact reason was...

Re: Humming/groaning sound after forge oil cooler fitted
It is a bit annoying, as it interferes with the normal cockpit music of the V8 at low speeds.... but I can get over that.
It could be due to its new higher location, and the hose routing/longer hose length etc.
The original is tucked way underneath and bolted very close to the subframe, so the general pulse of the oil might be deadened by other means.
Now it's sitting on a lightweight bracket in a different location, it could be resonating slightly.
I'm not sure the innards of the cooler itself would cause it to buzz but it's not as long as the old cooler, just wider.

Re: Humming/groaning sound after forge oil cooler fitted
It was apparently due to a vibration issue caused by the original longer bolts touching another part of the car. All kits now come it the right length bolts.
However, when mine was fitted the garage said there was a set of bolts and washes missing so just used some random bolts with loads of washers they had lying around. Anyway, since I removed my centre resonators I can't hear it anymore.

Haha.... good corrective method there Mike.
This sound isn't a physical contact vibration, more of a hum like a power steering whine but very muffled.

Haha, this is clearly the way forward! Make the exhaust louder till you can't hear all the annoying little noises! Oil cooler, rattles, wife etc.MikeFish wrote:since I removed my centre resonators I can't hear it anymore.

Mine also does this but it sounds like a very very small supercharger so In my mind i have one
lol
There's some info about it on one of youngbens old threads but like everyone said its to do with the bolts & where it's mounted.

I've got a feeling that I know where its coming from. I'll do some messing around and update accordingly.

Hmmmm.... mines nowt to do with the bolts....
Its definitely a pump noise, just like a power steering pump groan while going from lock to lock....
I did read on other forums that the noise seems to be part and parcel of non OEM coolers when retrofitted.
I hope i shouldnt be worried.... :-/

Dont worry, mines been fine.
I thought power steering. It's the same noise.
Let me know how you get on, got to go the canaries in a few hours..

Re: Humming/groaning sound after forge oil cooler fitted
Anyone successfully eliminated the whine?
Re: Humming/groaning sound after forge oil cooler fitted
Yes, as above, centre resonator delete.
