Thumbs up for Marcus at Disc Skimmers
Credit where credit is due. He has a great knowledge of brakes, there was an issue with removing one of the caliper pins so the job took longer than expected, about 3 hours extra but he didn't charge me for that.
He recommended using ceramic pads to me because of the cars intended use, ie weekends only & fast road use. Speak to him and let him know what your intentions for the car are and he will suggest the correct pads. I used EBC Redstuff:
http://www.ebcbrakeshop.co.uk/?gclid=CM ... wgodXj4GZQ
£249 for a full pad set and £50 for a pin kit from Audi, plus £280 for Marcus to do the work. I was looking at getting new discs and pads all round at £1900! What Marcus has done should last me another 15,000 miles with spirited use so a no brainer for me.
The discs look brand new now and perform better than before, I can recommend him unreservedly. I'll post some pictures on the forum tomorrow, the difference is night and day.
Before and after of the rears, will shoot the fronts tomorrow.

Did it have the wrong pads on before? Thats one hell of a lip!

Re: Thumbs up for Marcus at Disc Skimmers
Great looking job but more to the point, are they still over the minimum tolerance?
The RS4 discs are renowned for having a very small amount of wear before they fall below tolerance!!!.
think the fronts allow for 2mm wear (1mm on each surface) and the rears are less at about 1.6mm wear (0.8 on each face).
I'm guessing (hoping) the disc skimmer guy did check for min tolerance prior to skimming to ensure he was not taking off enough to take them below!!
Im not suggesting they will self destruct as soon as you go below as I know my fronts are bang on the limit and I have read of a few guys keeping them going for another 1mm of wear as they claim Audi's limits are too conservative!!
Just wanted to make you aware in case you had over looked this.

Re: Thumbs up for Marcus at Disc Skimmers
The pads were original so not sure why the lipped like that.
Thanks for the heads up Richie, the discs are on the limit after skimming, they lasted 33,000 miles using 2mm so if I can get 15,000 out of them they'll be above 31.5mm, not that out of tolerance for me. (famous last words as I leave the road at high speed in a cloud of broken disc induced tyre smoke)

Re: Thumbs up for Marcus at Disc Skimmers
Marcus has looked after my B7 and C6 previously and I refer him wherever possible. He's a sound guy who knows his stuff - especially about the semi-floating setups of the B7 which others don't like to touch. There's no magic to what he does, but it's a very skilled job - especially the wheel work, which from the price you've paid I guess you got also.
Believe only the man who has nothing to gain from what he says.

How do they manage to get to the back of the disc whilst they are on the car? The heat shield is so close.TomRS wrote:Yes mate both surfaces its done on the car too!marc1 wrote:Did they skim the back too?
I'm sure it does get some, like you say though.

Shield doesn't cover the whole disc.

Re: Thumbs up for Marcus at Disc Skimmers
Top lad he sorted out my S4 when I had issues running RS5 brakes!
Re: Thumbs up for Marcus at Disc Skimmers
Had my C7 RS6 Discs skimmed by Wimborne Motors, did a top job after Audi
refused to replace 2nd set of warped front discs under warranty!
They recommended skimming them on the car, which I had done, but can also do them off the car.
Top job & great price, might be useful for anyone near Dorset?
Dave.

Thanks for the clarification Ross. Really I should have known that.RossDagley wrote:

I'm thinking of putting the Phaeton brake scoops on my B7 too.

Re: Thumbs up for Marcus at Disc Skimmers
I never had them on my b7 but would have liked them. I heard they're a bit of work to fit as you need to trim part of the shield etc. On the c6 (pictured) they're a direct fit.
I should probably fot them on the b8 now really given my near fire incident at the ring last time!
