Engine Management Light/EPC Light info.

Afternoon gents.

My car has been stood for 3 months whilst i have been working abroad. This happens twice a year so not the first time i've left it like this.

Anyway, yesterday i got back and she started first time, jumped in and nipped into town to do run some errands. Unfortunately the EPC light came on during this journey, i believe due to the emissions sensors reading high or low, read up on it before but can't recall the exact reason, anyway, it's happened before and an old fashioned 'italian tune' (hoon) sorts it out.

However, due to the errands i had to run, i was pottering about town for around 7 miles before i had a chance to open it up and take it through the revs, during this time, the Engine Management light came on - i suspect due to the EPC light being on for a while?/sensors not reading properly for so long?

I gave it a blast anyway and the EPC light disapeered but the EM light is still on and now 48 hours later (only 10 miles done) is still there

I'm sure this is just because there is a fault stored and needs cleared - Is this a reasonable assumption? The car revs all the way to the redline, pulls well, idles well, nothing to suggest any issues at all.

Anyone had a similar issue? I have a 500mile drive to do on Tuesday and naturally i'm a little concerned even though im pretty certain theres nothing wrong with the car. I wont be able to get it plugged in anywhere before i go either.

Being unsure what's causing your CEL, I will offer this observation: most EDU error codes I've seen will keep the CEL lit until you fix the underlying issue and clear the code in the ECU.

Hope yours is easy, just needing your hoonage and some love from VCDS.

Cheers mate.

I think it's just that the EPC light/fault was apparent for long enough to have the fault code stored in the ECU and to bring the EM light on. So now needs a VCDS scan/reset to get the EM light off. Just wanted to know if anyone on her could confirm or deny this for me.

I believe the issue has been sorted with a blast to clear the cobwebs so to speak - as this has worked a couple of times in the past when the car has been stood for 2-3 months.

Cool, now just need some VCDS love to clear the code and shut off the CEL. Be sure to scan both ECUs with VCDS, clear them both. ECU1 and ECU11.

As an update...

Engine Management light went off itself after about 12 miles and a turn off and on of the ignition. :audibash:

Note to self: Get the car driven more whilst i'm away to prevent this issue.

The fault code will still be stored, only "major" faults leave the EPC light on but less significant faults if they don't happen repeatedly will result in the EPC light going off.
