RS4 Security, Experience/Knowledge

Post by Wotsirb » Sun Nov 15, 2015 10:02 pm

So, I bought my Sprint blue RS4 Avant on Wednesday.

I want to fit an ALARM/Immobiliser/Tracker/Proximity device to the car, the more features the better.

In particular I'd love to have a proximity sensor/warning for anyone getting close to the car. Window smash/shock alert would be preferable.

I've been looking at Clifford/Viper but I want real world experience and advice on this as we all know our cars are desirable to Theives/Vandals/Jealous types etc.

If anyone has any experience with a LAMINEX product to prevent entry via force this advice would also be welcomed!

Budget is not an issue.

I purchased a Clifford Concept 650 system as soon as I bought my RS.

The alarm has the proximity function as well as retaining the original alarm and it's relevant sensors.

The proximity works really well. It certainly sh!t my mate up that was peering through the window yesterday morning.

No issues with it so far.

I also had the BlackJax device enabled which is a nice touch. have a Google for it if you haven't heard of it before.

People have stated that is annoying remembering to put a code in!!!. You get used to putting it in but if you drive off without disabling, It'll start beeping at you whilst your driving you have about 10-15 seconds to enter it before all hell breaks loose

Does this mean you can double lock the car? Clifford plus OEM?

I'll probably go for that with the acoustic sensor option (for Glass)

How much did it set you back... prices seem to be negotiable

By using the Clifford fob it automatically enables the standard alarm and it's features. The Clifford doesn't have tilt sensors as standard but the Audi alarm does so it retains their use.

Think I paid about £345 fully fitted from a guy in Sheffield.

Thanks for your help, getting mine fitted with Window sensors plus OBD port security on Friday.

Where have you got your keypad located? I'm thinking under the cubby hole below the steering wheel?

Mines just to the let of the steering colomb. It's quite discreet there but easy to get too. Make sure where ever you have it its quite easy to access as if you forget to enter the code, the Alston thing you want to be doing is trying to hunt for it whilst your driving!!!.

The blue LED for the alarm is in the spare button next to the ESP button. The spare tab pops out so its easy to fit.

Excellent. Thanks for the advice.

I'm sure a future "this bloody alarm keeps going off when cats go near it/the wind picks up/I keep forgetting to input the code/my neighbours hate my zorst and my alarm" thread will appear shortly lol!

Many thanks again.

Haha. Well I haven't felt inclined to write a thread of that nature yet so hopefully you won't either.

It's quite easy to adjust the sensitivity of the proximity sensor so it doesn't go off if fly farts near it!!

I have that Clifford system with blackjax too, great system and the proxy sensor works well.
Not sure if my standard alarm is armed too, must check that.

For the keypad the guys installed it beside the cigarette lighter, very handy to use and can be hidden away.
Genius :)

Yeah I was very impressed. When it was fitted they asked me to find it and I couldn't.

Very easy spot for entering the code too.

Love it. More ingenious than my positioning.

So if I were a thief. First you have find it, then you have to guess the code. No bloody chance lol

I only found out about the 12v by accident when I completely missed the start button fumbling around the other day! XD
