17072/P0688/001672 - ECM Power Relay Load Circuit: (J271): Open Circuit
Possible Symptoms

Engine Coolant Fan running at full Speed while Ignition is OFF and Engine is COLD (could lead to discharged Battery)

Possible Causes

Fuse(s) faulty
Power Supply Relay for Engine Control Module (J271) faulty
Terminal 87 faulty/hanging
Wiring between Engine Control Module (J220) and Power Supply Relay for Engine Control Module (J271) faulty

Possible Solutions

Check/Replace Power Supply Relay for Engine Control Module (J271)
Check Wiring between Engine Control Module (J220) and Power Supply Relay for Engine Control Module (J271)
Check/Replace Engine Control Module (J220)

Thats the best one to check first! it sounds a little serious though mate, might be worth dropping the car into somsone who knows the crack.
I'd check fuses and relays first mind!

Unplugged connector and got the same codes followed by this one.

Sounds like there is some serious ECU communication issues, that will be why your fuel pump isn’t priming etc. I don’t know if all the other codes are caused by the ecu error i.e your maf and low fuel pressure codes.
Brake switch also could be to do with a bad ecu.

I’d firstly check all the fuses and relays that you can, then it might honestly be a case of having the ecu checked by either a stealer or someone who knows Audi’s MRC/Unit 20 depends where you are based??

Has the car been mapped or anything like that? Driven through some serious water lately?

No car hasn't been mapped, not that i'm aware of anyway. Bought it back in July as a cat d. Had an issue with the cooling fan not working so its been into unit 20. they found that a loom behind the passenger wing was badly damaged and there was water in the ecu housing. they also replaced a main fuse. The car was running brilliantly until the other day. Its going into my local mechanic as hes only up the road and i can tow it there. cheers for your replies, appreciate it.

I think maybe the sames happened again? or the ECU has finally given up.... from previously being wet as this sounds very much like a ecu/wiring issue.

The car was a CAT D? was it badly damaged? i have no issues buying cat d's as its only minor bodywork and it makes the purchase price a hell of a lot cheaper.

Where your based? if you arent too far i have a trailer i could lend a hand and drop you down where you need to go if needs be.

I'm in Chester, thanks very much for the offer. I towed it where it needed to go as its only a mile away and quiet roads. Unit 20 said it has had a smack on the a pillar which damaged the wiring. They soldered and heat shrinked all the wires which were badly repaired. I took it to the south of France in September and it never missed a beat, just hope I can get it back running without too big of a bill. Fancied tuning it abit.

Certainly worth fitting two new ECM relays. They're a pain to get to under the ECU back left of the engine but worth the hassle considering the inexpensive cost.

Doing that cured the fault code below and about 6 others for me:
17072/P0688/001672 - ECM Power Relay Load Circuit: (J271): Open Circuit
Sepang Blue B8 RS4, MY14, All option packs, B&O, Adv Key, Adapt Cruise, Pan Roof, Akrapovic Titanium Exhaust, + more.
Previous - Sprint Blue B7 RS4 Avant, Ceramics, Sunroof, SS+, Buckets, FBSW, Bluetooth, 2010+ RNSe
Previous - Phantom Black B7 RS4 Avant, Black Optics, Titan pack, SS+, Buckets, FBSW

Thanks very much. Will mention it to mechanic on Monday. Doesn't feel right driving around without it!

Started straight away once replaced! Hope this will be the end to the faults for a while. Thanks for all your help. Was a towel in the Ecu housing!! Can't really understand how it got water in it, seems pretty tight.

I couldn't believe the state of them. We've decided to change all the relays under that ecu. It's good to get things sorted on it as I've not owned it that long.
