Just wanted give a shout out to A4Audi in Clydebank.
I've just had my car in to get the timing chains done. Andy the manager there was spot on, his knowledge and customer service was second to none. I would highly recommend them if you were looking to have any work carried out on your car.
I had a full timing chain kit fitted with all Tensioners and guides, new clutch and front brake service with new pads. Kept me up to speed with the progress of the job and also sent me some pictures throughout the job. First class service.

The oil cooler burst causing the chain to jump a tooth, so it had to be done.

I will only take my RS4 to A4 Audi, I have never had such good service anywhere else than I have from Andy and his staff. Top class and second to none! Yours isn't the first RS4 engine I've seen in there! When I dropped in for a nosey 3 years ago there was one having the same job done as above which made my mind up that this was the place to bring the car. To add to my decision Audi Glasgow asked me if my 'Golf on steroids' was a 3.2 v6! Suffice to say I avoid Glasgow like the plague and only ever head to A4 Audi!

Sorry to hear your having trouble with the rs. Excuse my ignorance but how does the oil cooler suddenly blowing cause the timing chain to jump a tooth? I'm not dubious just panicking a little as its a job I've considered doing but thought I'd wait till the pipes look completely shot. Now I'm thinking it might be worth doing it just for peace of mind.

I have used the guys at A4 a few times & totally agree with the comments above. Andy & his staff are top people & really know their cars and how to treat customers. Will be using them after Christmas to fit my coilovers. Can't recommend them enough.

Hi Baz4
The timing chain has hydraulic oil Tensioners 4 off so when the oil cooler burst the engine lost oil pressure causing the Tensioners to relax and allow the chain to go slack jumping a tooth. A4Audi did a superb job sorting it out.

Hi Gilly
Totally agree, my car has also had the Bilstien B14 coilovers kit fitted by them and is superb. Go for it.

By the power of grayskull!!
Thats organised chaos going on under those chain covers..... i cant 'unsee' it now...

Glad youre all sorted.
Out of interest, is there an unofficial interval at which these chains need renewal?

I read in Evo once that the man that designed the engine said it was good for 155,000 miles before any major work was required.
Quite what 'major work' entails is anyones guess though......
I am up to 139,000 now and I was going to have all the chains, tensioners etc replaced in the next year or so but I was advised to just wait until the chains started to get noisy.
Do you know how much it was for just the chain kit and fitting?

Your looking at around the 3 grand mark all in. It's the labour time that is the killer.

Thanks for that, not too bad really. Nothing else out there that I want so don't mind spending money on the old bus when needed.

Andy's looked after my Audi's for many years. I can't speak highly enough of the customer service. I had some extensive work completed earlier this year on my RS4, as you'll see from the above. Had to get some valve work done on the V8 and decided to get the clutch, flywheel, oil coolers, aux radiators sorted out while the engine was out.
It was in for a parking sensor last week and Andy said he had another in for timing chains after an oil cooler failure, I guess this was yours Chud1.

Hi psglas,
Haha yes this was mine, he mentioned your car to me. Really puts your mind at easy when you hear about all the good work that's being done there. I'll not go anywhere else now, as long as I have the RS4 that's where It'll be going.
