Tyre replacement comments & suggestions

Post by Sterling » Tue Sep 22, 2015 2:44 pm

Hi all.
Firstly thanks to all who have posted so much on here which means I can just do a forum search without starting a new thread wasting everyone's time asking the same questions over again, also if there's a sticky can you link it please
:beerchug: .
So the cars currently in the stealers having a new aux rad fitted (£££) they`ve noticed one of the front tyres has an irreparable puncture so when I collect her I'm probably going to change all four :boots: together so I'm looking at these to begin with.

& then I found these :
2,
http://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop. ... p=R-219672

Have heard some peeps say the vred`s are 98% as good as the pilot 2`s but would like to hear what other Rs owners reckon & is there anything else I should be aware of.
On a side note will probably be scrapping the drc late winter/spring and going over to Kwv3 kit offered by Mrc ,I don't run spacers but would the rim protection potentially cause rubbing issues if I were to go for a 266/35/19 as some others have or is this increase a bad move ??
Cheers
S....... :blackrs4:

Vreds are OK if you're on a tight budget - they last a long time but the sidewalls are soft so the ride is good but the handling is vague.

The PS2s are a much better drive, and the PSSs are even better (but make a bit more road noise).

If the choice is 120 quid for the goodyears or 150 quid for vreds then its a no brainer, the Goodyear is far superior and cheaper! Even if the price was the other way round id still go for the goodyears.
Not tried the PSS but heard good things about them, and recently hearing they are better than the goodyears (previously they seemed to be rated similar on here). And not a lot more money than the vreds. For 10 pound more per tyre its an easy choice.

Ok thanks for all your input so far guys, I was more looking for opinion's on brands/models rather than the pricing a quick search tossed up.
I`m not feeling the Vreds so far as it has been said the handling is vague so really its down to the pilots but 2-3 or super sports or ? . I drive a couple of hundred miles a month but love bends & quite often its wet down South .( dam that sounded gay)
Price is always in the back of everybody's mind me thinks

I'd say Michelin Pilot Supersports are the best. I've run Goodyear Eagle F1's in the past and they are great too. Also had Pilot Sport 2 and 3's on my Mk5 Golf Gti, again a great tyre. But on an RS4, the PSS's I have on at the minute are the best tyre I've ever had.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Far superior tyre. Vred's are fine, Goodyears are better but none are better than the PS2 and the PSS is better still. No brainier! C.£570 for four from Tyre Leader and your dealer will match the price. So at about £142 a tyre, it's pretty hard to choose anything else really. There's a good reason they're standard issue on many super cars (458, etc).

Oh no you didn't, yes I agree continentals are poo but p zeros are not that much better. You were right to bin the contis but why did you go for the p zero? Hateful tyre that came with my car when I bought it, and its been the worst tyre I've had in 5 years .
