RS4 to MK7 Golf R

So I've owned my 2008 RS4 for almost 3 years. It has just over 107,000 km's on it and is in great shape. Love the car to death however am thinking about selling the car and buying a Golf R. I know what the general response will be however am wondering if anyone has made the switch. Obviously, I will be losing the wonderful V8 howl, the lovely body and the rarity of the RS4 however I will be gaining a new, under warranty, fast as <beep> and technologically up to date car. I still have my 993 C4S as the toy/summer car so the R will be a daily, winter car.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Derek

I played with the idea of doing this, i'm a classifieds addict, always looking at new cars but yet to see something that has truly tempted me away from the B7.

Anyway, the nail in the Golf R coffin was the amount of them on cheap PCP deals... every man and his dog has one for £349 a month, 2 year terms etc etc... just wait until all those chaps have moved on to the next cheap deal and the market will be flooded with poor spec Golf R's for cheap as chips. i.e. Not good for someone who buys one now, poor residuals.

I think they will be a steal in a few years, competant car for sure. Maybe it's just in my eyes but everytime i see one i get a bit sad as 9 times out of 10 it's a kitchen salesman driving, if he could have got an evoque cheaper he'd be in that instead.

Thought about it myself, went as far as getting a decent trade in price, spec'ing up what I wanted and waiting for an equivalent Demo to come in and drive it.
I wasn't overly impressed tbh.
Lovely looking car but didn't have the warm fuzzy feeling that driving the RS4 gives me.
Also felt a bit disappointed with the interior. I expected a good step up from a 2007 car but it wasn't evident to me. Little things like the sun visor and handle seeming a bit flimsy

+1. A good car.

Send a PM to sync24.

I bought his old RS4, and he has a R on order, I think he should have taken delivery very recently.

Who's driven one? What got me was the bloody piped in engine note - it was truly horrific, very synthetic and false. That combined with 'quad chav pipes' I'd feel as fake as a Turkish Rolex.

I thought it was the BMWs that piped engine noise? And that the Golf GTi / R / S3 was natural? Thought the exhaust on the 2013 S3 I drove was pretty decent tbh for a four pot

Big Glenn has got one for his Mrs too, no DRC issues like he has had on his B8 RS4 :audibash:

Very easy to turn the piped engine off if you choose to do so

Not a Golf R but we're about to get an S3 as well as the RS4. Here's what the S3 owners think.

Yea it's brutal quick for a hatchback but it's not a rs4 if you know what I mean? I had a r32 before my rs4 and with work it felt a bit embarrassing pulling up in it and how loud it was.

The 4 exhausts on the r really let it down I think, as if it's trying too hard, plus as said above with all the cheap lease deals there going to totally plummet in price soon it would be a poor car to buy I think. Especially from a rs4.

Ha ha - felt the same way with my R32. Worth the embarrassment though!
