Right folks.


I've decided it's time to change the clutch. After a bit of spirited driving a month ago the peddle stuck half up. And ever since then it's only done it 3 times more but it feels a lot different than what it used to be.

So where's best to get the clutch kit and obviously change the flywheel at the same time. What about the slave cylinder should this be changed also is there anything else I should be doing while the box is out ?

Doing this at my cousins garage with my cousin in a few weeks. So got time to order the parts.

Should I go after market or stick with Audi parts ?

been doing some research and JHM do a lightened fly & clutch kit & a slave cylinder as well so think i'll order this from the states

I had the same problem with clutch pedal sticking when giving it some stick.
I was just going to change clutch and bearing and vacuum pipes. Decided to change flywheel at the same time.
Got all parts from local audi garage. No more problems with the clutch sticking since fitting 12 months ago.

did you change the slave and the pipe as well ?

Yes we changed the pipes but not the slave.
Car had done about 66000 when they were changed.

I plan to change the slave guess i'll do the pipe as well I don't suppose you have the part numbers on an invoice do you?

received a list of part numbers from MRC on Tuesday, I have a guy with a trade parts account so have ordered all parts to replace the clutch coming in at £1211.79 for everything

Sticking with OEM clutch/flywheel then aye?

aye MRC said the standard set up is perfect for what I use the car for and if I go for a lightened fly it will rattle a bit and the uprated clutch will give it an on or off feel so decided to stick with stock for the driveability

Haha I was thinking about that like. Honestly if I find this to be straight forward enough and done in a day then I will do provide a service for our wee band of brothers

Well that's the clutch replaced.

Quite an easy job once all the stuff that needs to come off is off would have took me and my cousin 6hrs however broke a down pipe stud and the rest were corroded badly so had to use heat to get them out and replace them which took a couple hours

One mistake I made was when pulling out the box I didn't realise that the engine position sensor needed to come out and managed to break it so had to wait a day for Audi to deliver one

Did some sums and total cost including the sensor and 2 days trailer hire and engine oil and filter change
£1211 all parts
£108+ vat for sensor
£21 oil filter
£100 trailer hire
£250 labour
£1700 all in and the satisfaction that I've done it myself

I took a few pictures during the process I'll post them up when I get time

So what does it actually feel like apart from the clutch not staying down?

Just wondered with the FW replacement did it smooth out gear change vibration when full on the beans?

Well done for taking the job on, would love to do this job if I had the hyd ramps

Instantly noticeable the bite point is now only about 1" off the floor

I replaced the FW with oem so can't say I've noticed any difference on that

I'd recommend if doing this yourself you do need a mate with a garage as I think we used every tool in the box and not a hope in hell doing this in a drive on wheel ramps or stands

It would definitely be interesting to see your write up with pics showing just how much is involved in the job. I think my clutch will need doing soon, 78k miles on the original. Not a chance I would tackle it myself though!!
