Back to the RS4

Hi All

My first post as I just bought a daytona avant this week and just couldn't stop smiling the whole way home - what an awesome car!

Its been a bit of journey to this point.....I had a B7 RS4 from 2010 to 2013 and loved it. I woke up one morning to the now familiar story - window smashed, seats gone, steering wheel gone etc with interior ripped and bits broken - heart breaking. I looked into repairing but the bill was huge and would have been many months off the road. I was still living in london at the time and couldn't stand it happening again so bought an B8 S4 last year, which is a great car and easy to like with all the mod cons. Since moving out of London though and only using the car at weekends I couldn't forget about how good my old RS4 was so started scanning the ads a couple of months ago until the perfect one popped up. I thought i might be crazy selling a 1year old S4 for an 8 year old car but the first drive in the RS4 I knew I'd made the right decision. Looking forward to running it now and after reading through a few threads on here I might be tempted to go for a few tweaks :)

Welcome back! The B7 is still a great place to sit. Only reason I moved on was I just wanted the interior to be a bit more modern (also B8 S4 and soon to be B8 RS)

Nothing quite like the RS badge tho :)

He may have owned before, but it's all about the posy count - SWON, I'm disappointed! No FON on post one!

RS4 Will - FON and welcome.

Rule 1. Neow. Photos please.

Tweaks - first thing I did was an LED make-over from Trups - the cost vs result was a no brainier...

PM 'Trups' on here. He does a perfect DRL with canceller to avoid errors: viewtopic.php?f=93&t=107974

For uber bright 50w DRL bulbs: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/P21W-BA15s-50 ... 35c91463ca

With all due respect Neil, I personally wouldn't be recomending Trups. All I've had is fitment trouble from his products, I currently have a set of his DRL bulbs which don't fit on two aspects and they also fell apart whilst trying to fit them to new headlights a couple of weeks ago. :|

I do agree with the Rule 1 call though, welcome back RS4 Will and pictures please

Yeah, Sam I know you had issues and that's a shame - I had nothing but good fitment and 2 years on, no issues. Maybe you had a Friday batch?

Either way, Trups or eBay an LED refresh brings on the interior and exterior no end for little outlay...

Enjoy the RS and it' V8 (again) and pictures!

thanks guys. Pictures below, completely standard at the moment but in great condition. Will definitely look into the LEDs. Some security additions happening this week (given my last experience) and then maybe a trip to MRC at the end of the year although the engine seems to pulling hard so in no rush - it has more of a kick than my previous RS4 through 5500.

Nice. Real nice. Another bread van, but as you're new, I'll let it go for now...;)

Hi Guys, its been a long time since my last post but thought I'd share a few updates since almost a year has past. Firstly I'm loving the switch back to the B7 - still smile every time I drive it :D

I had a Cat 5 security system installed which has working really well - the fob that you carry with you means if anyone drives your car away without it, it immediately alerts the tracker guys, who call your mobile instantly. I've left my bag next to the garage (with fob inside it) when I get my car out and they've called before i've left the drive.

I thought hard about the servicing and read a few threads on here recently.....It was a tough decision since it has perfect Audi history but I've decided to go the MRC route. Just my opinion but for me this car is a keeper so I decided that a) MRC will do a better job of it and b) if I do sell it in 5-10years time it will be a fairly specialist car by that point so surely a place like MRC will carry as much or more weight?.....lets see!

Talking of MRC....after the service was complete it went on the Dyno and recorded a respectable 387bhp. This made me decide to go for the stage 2 remap without the carbon clean (its never had one before). My thinking being it seemed a fairly high figure without carbon clean so will run it for a year like that and see what the dyno says then. I went to pick it up this evening - epic 80 mile drive back on B roads! Stage 2 is a great improvement and it seems to pull harder earlier, especially in 3rd. Interestingly it made 407bhp after the remap. I'll do pre cats and carbon clean next year and report back!

Thats it - no cosmetic changes to the outside but have a couple in mind so will post updates.

Graph below for interest:

Hang about - 407HP and never carbon cleaned? That's a great result!

I'm with you on MRC in the service book. Others disagree, but I think it's no bad thing to see a good Indy in the maintenance history rather than Audi. To me, it indicates an owner that takes an interest in the car, and I have more confidence in some indys than most (but not all) Audi dealers.

yes never carbon cleaned so it seemed a good result but thats with stage 2. I'm not an expert but on the graph where it shows 407 it seems a bit of a blip? The second run after stage 2 was 400. Anyway it feels good!

With the carbon clean I was under the impression that if you had it done and drove the car fairly hard each time you used it then there was a better chance of keeping carbon build up at bay or lower. If you are driving along the motorway or around town all the time then the build up would be back in 6 months or so?
