Cracked Alloy

Post by RS4Guy » Sat Aug 29, 2015 11:40 am

Holidaying in France, about half way through our 595 mile journey, we lost air pressure in the nearside rear tyre, it turns out the problem is a crack on the inside edge of the alloy wheel rim. Anyway, managed another 100 miles before needing more air and down to just 50 mile stints thereafter.

Since arriving and with local trips to the Boulangerie, we could only manage 10 miles before losing pressure. Have used an expanding foam canister which seems to have allowed us to maintain pressure for now, but this is merely a temporary solution to the problem. At the end of the day, I will need a new alloy wheel. Got the part number from an Audi dealer in the UK after much reluctance "we don't give out part numbers" (8EO601025AG1H7) and the price: £862.89.... are you f***ing joking? Oh, that's inclusive of VAT, well thank you very much! :audibash:

Don't suppose they are identical to the ones you find on C6 A6's and are a fraction of the price?

So, I am wondering if anyone is looking to sell any genuine Audi 14 spoke 9J x 19's? Don't mind the condition, so long as they are round and not cracked. Please message me if you are selling. Alternatively, I may consider a full set of 9J x 19 rotors with an ET29 offset.

Nightmare!

Previous owner of my car had receipts for 2 alloy wheels as he had hit potholes during the winter, pretty sure the price was the same.

I don't think the wheels for a C6 A6 have the correct offset and if I remember rightly only the RS4 uses ET29 for that style of wheel in 19 inch.

Paid £1000 for 4 used but genuine ET29 alloys with winter tyres last year on ebay so that might be your best bet.

Any concerns about running on a welded alloy in terms of integrity of the metal or the weld itself? Considering the forces these cars can put through the wheels and the speeds that can be attained (quite regularly).
