Oil Level Check

numpty question, but its so important ill ask anyway ;-)

when checking oil level, should this be done on level ground from cold or what?

Ive always done it on as level ground as possible and about 5 mins after the engine is off so the oil has time to gather. Gravity ftw!

Yeah as above or get to temp turn off and wait 5 mins then check

Level ground for sure... I was always old to check the oil warm but wait 15 mins however having compared that to cold have found no difference in the readings so have concluded for regular vehicles the oil temp doesn't matter for checking the oil.
