RS4 B7 stock resonator delete

Post by daveb77 » Mon Aug 17, 2015 8:51 pm

Having done a bit of searching, reading and you tube watching I was hoping for some real life feedback on ditching the stock centre resonator and the difference this will make. I seem to be reading conflicting reports on H pipe better than X pipe etc or straight through affecting low down power? Juts after a bit more rasp without spending the world. My garage thinks removing will free up some flow and 'likely' make pedal feel more responsive...

I know its a well discussed subject but anyone that has recently done this and opinion on was it worth the small outlay etc would be most useful...

Cheers

I have the standard system with valves disconnected and straight pipes replacing the central res boxes.

I can't comment on power differences as I bought it like this but it's considerably louder that a standard system.

At the recent AITP event a gave the car a few blips. TABIS who is running standard stated there and then he was booking his car in the next day he was that impressed. And the milltek boys did question why they spend £1.5k on there system instead of doing it haha.

Having had Millteks and Tubi exhausts and not being happy with either the noise or the quality (Milltek are pish) I had the resonator box removed, best £80 I'd spent on the car

Again thanks for the feedback, straight pipe? Sounds too good. Saw one clip online, looks american black saloon, sounds epic!

yes straight pipes welded in to replace the resonator, no X or H pipe.

Deleting the centre will give you the sound you require. No need for milltek it's a waste of money. Power wise you need to up the bore size so no massive gain on adding x or h to the standard system other than deleting the pre cats or full cat delete.

I used to work on tuning audi s and vw and people requested milltek to be fitted and when they arrived the bends were poor not mandrel bent the welds were shoddy and had pinches where they went over the rear drive shafts etc. So I don't touch them nor would I touch EBC from what I've removed

As above, had tubi in various configurations with milltek h pipe and res or non res. I'm now happiest with straight through pipes with valves dsicnnected. Jc weldfab sounds better but for about £100 its a no brainer. Can't really tell any difference with performance. Ambient temperature has a much bigger effect.

I also took another video but forgot to take the lens cap off.
A bit more revving in this one so thought I'd post anyway as there isn't much to look at even with the cap off!

Yes. Unless they have changed the recipe now but had loads that crumbled on the edges, scored the disks, and the friction material came free from the metal

Thanks Rick, im really pleased with it. No drone but noisier than stock at all revs and I've not been pulled over with it yet (I picked up my 1st section 59 2 days after the Tubi was fitted).

Sounds good Mike, how come the valves have to be disconnected? I'm new to the RS4 scene so sorry for any stupid questions.
