Sods law strikes again! DRC replacement time!

Post by R55ENS » Sat Aug 15, 2015 4:20 pm

Why do these things rear their ugly heads at the most inappropriate time!

I ordered a new RS3 in July so have been slowly getting my RS4 ready for sale. Just had it serviced and was planning on a wheel refurbished and detail to get it looking tip top.

Drove the car yesterday and there was loud banging coming from the rear passenger corner and the front drivers corner. Got under the car and had a look around. Thought it was the exhaust at first so had a mess with that but no joy. Checked the front drivers side and there's oil everywhere. DRC hose has burst spraying oil in the arch. Now there is zero damping on that corner. Am I right in thinking the noise on the passenger rear is connected to this?

Now for the next bit, what would be the ideal suspension to go for? What's the cost for aftermarket and DRC? And would it make a difference come sale time which was fitted?

Really don't need to be spend loads on the car right before I sell it! :(

DRC is connected diagonally so yes.

Don't drive the car too much until you get something sorted, as too much driving could cause the DRC valve block to be fatally damaged - and that's the REALLY expensive DRC component (you're talking £1000+ for a damper and valve replacement).

I've got some spares mate. I 'think' two are ok and two leak. I bought them as a just in case measure. If you may be interested, drop me a PM and I can dig them out, have a look and get you some pictures, etc.

Cheers for the offer, but I think I might go coilovers! Will hopefully eliminate any future problems!

Are the kw v3's the ones to go for? And does anyone know the cheapest place to get them? :D :bigwave:

If no other parts are damaged, a new hose and DRC re-charge would be a lot cheaper, especially if you can find a indie that can do it.

Cheers for replys lads. Yep its the hose from the damper to the main lines.

Looking at changing to kw's as it means no more worries for the future buyer. Ive found a place that does the v'3 for just under £1300. Seems like a good price. And I know a lad who runs an indy in Macclesfield so going to get a fitting cost off him. Would do it myself but really cant be arsed!! ha

Once this is sorted the car will be most likely going up for sale. New bakes went on in March, new suspension going on soon and just been serviced. Only thing it wont have had is a carbon clean. I reckon ill want to keep it when its done!
