It should happen automatically when you 'start' your destination.

I assume you have the RNSE head unit and it has been coded in correctly?

Yeah got the RNSE head unit. It doesn't happen automatically. How do you code it in? Not sure as I've not long had it. Thanks

Weird question really as it "just works" normally; was the Satnav fitted from new (factory) or has someone swapped the system over later?

There is normally a way to change what exactly appears in the DIS, just not sure which stalk/button/option you need to press to change it on a B7, though I think it will return to default at startup.

Not 100% sure if it's been in from new. Satnav all works except the drivers info screen, it just made me think when my mate said about it.

It's been a while since I took my RNS-E out, but do you lose the sat nav display if you have any errors on the DIS? I seem to recall any errors would replace the music info like radio station / track name etc right at the top of the DIS but not the sat nav info in the middle but worth mentioning in case my I have forgotten.

What firmware is on the RNSE?

I'm presuming the RNSE turns off when you take the key out the car and lock etc? Does it have the correct RS4 boot logo?

Press NAV, then press SETUP, then scroll down to the "Compass" option and press the large knob to place a tick in the "Compass" box. You should now see the centre part of your DIS showing something like ">N<". That should prove if the RNSE is coded for the DIS.

Next, select a destination, click on "Start Navigation". On the RNSE screen you should see a map with an active route (blue roads). Then turn the RNSE off and back on. You should now see navigation information in the centre part of your DIS.

If you don't, it's likely a coding or firmware issue.

The RS4 boot screen is not standard and will only show if it has been added by a previous owner.

Weird as mine had it - must have been vagcommed previously then I guess. I know I had to do it on the replacement RNSE I installed as it was out of a poverty spec A4.

Carry on!

Only if that's a pre 2010 RNSE - the OEM RNSE in the RS4 will indeed show an RS4 logo via Vagcom. The Updated 2010+ RNSE is only the Audi MMI logo

Channel 018: Start Screen
The start screen setting has to correspond with the control module coding, e.g. a S3 start screen doesn't work with an A4 coding.
0 = Standard Start Screen
1 = Audi S3 Start Screen
2 = Audi S4 Start Screen
3 = Audi RS4 Start Screen
4 = Audi TT Start Screen
5 = Audi R8 Start Screen

Thats for the main RNSE nag screen, not the DIS of course...

The logo only became available to select with later firmware - version 0650 I believe, so earlier firmware versions will not have it to select from.

I think the OP's problem is that the RNS-e has not been fully coded to the car, it may've had a symphony system originally and then had the RNS-e retrofitted.

The coding change you need is to the instruments at address 17, not to the RNS-E see http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... 8ED/8HE%29

You need to add 4 to the value in adaptation channel 62.

Thanks for your replies. I've tried turning the compass on and that does nothing. Ive also got Vagcom and change the settings on channel 62 from 17 to 4. That's if I'm in the right thing lol

Reread the instructions! 17 to 4 makes no sense, that's NOT adding!

Added 4 to the value that was in the box. Still no joy though.
