So the time has come to replace my front discs and im going with the phaeton option.

I have a local guy than can machine the discs no problemand very cheap at that, but im just curious as to wethere there is a reccomended minimum/maximum number of grooves that should be on a disc?

Ive seen pictures of people using these discs before and some have 7 grooves either side where as others I have seen have had up to 11 either side.

Any help would be great, or even better if anyone has a drawing?

Cheers

Simon

Would it not just be easier and better to cough up the £ and stick the proper discs on?

everyone likes a bargain but i think alot of people can afford the B7 now as they are focus money but when it comes to maintenance they try to scrimp the disks, pads etc are eye watering. Wait until they need some rears lol there's no phaeton replacement then.

Do as many grooves as you want

I agree to a point. Given that most people don't use the RS on track or to anywhere near it's capabilities then it's reasonable to fit the the phaeton discs. The phaeton is substantial heavier than the 4 and in its top spec variety is capable of carrying a lot of speed. I've not heard of any issues with the Phaeton owners suffering with issues so I'd say that for most these will be more than OK. I'd also say that even if you can afford the OE discs unless you thrash the car everytime you drive it or use it on track then it's well worth the saving. Just my opinion of course, and for the record I replaced mine with OE !!

I love the look of the drilled discs. Putting solid or grooved discs just looks pants to me.

i have no abjection to fitting phaeton disks only that they wouldnt match the rears and that would annoy me

It's also really annoying that one front disc has the holes drilled in the wrong direction but the rears don't.

You might as well buy phaeton discs as the oe discs are rubbish anyway

I disagree. OE discs are excellent.

All interesting comments, but who here has actually fitted them before?
