One of my exhaust flaps has seized in the closed position and one in the open position. If I try and brute force the closed one, do i apply pressure to top or bottom half of the flap?

soak it first with a penetrating solution before trying to free it up.

Can't remember which way it goes, but if you shine a torch up the one that works and get someone to press the sport button a few times while ticking over you will see which way they turn.

Thanks Mike. The other one had seized open, so difficult to tell which way it goes.

As yes, sorry I misread that. Mine are disconnected and probably seized now so can't really help I'm afraid.

The flaps open sideways i think. I would disconnect the vacuum line, apply wd40. Give it 5 minutes and then apply some force.

Soak it in some WD40, get a broom handle that covers half of the flap, then chap on the end of it gently with a hammer until you start to get some movement.

Top tips. I will give it a try this weekend.

Just followed this procedure on mine as the flaps were seized shut & it's worked a treat! I want to keep the flaps open now so in order to do that do I just disconnect the rubber vacuum pipes at the side of the exhaust & if so, do I need to put anything over the ends of the pipes/actuators once disconnected or just leave them hanging in mid air etc??

You must seal the vacuum pipes - otherwise none of the vacuum operated flaps on the engine will work properly and you'll probably lose about 60bhp (estimate from Doug at MRC).

Just find a correct sized bolt, and screw that into the end of the pipe.

Golf tees are best, just push them in there hide pipes in rear diffuser and job done. Most satisfying 10 mins I have spent in a while

Evening all

I have just viewed a car whose flaps didn't open - neither of them. The bolster worked perfectly and everything else about the car was great... And so my question: if I try the lube and yet can't get theses to manually free up and start working fine, what else could it be?
