Android radio ordered

Well I took the plunge and splashed out on a new Android radio which looks like the stock unit and at $386.90 delivered I thinks it's a good price.

Should have it within the week and I can't wait as I hate the stock unit, it's like something from the dark ages in my book.

But the stock unit doesn't sound too bad. To me this would be a massive gamble on sound quality and that to me is more important than a fancy user interface (but I still want a nice interface). Are there any reviews of this unit online? Or a user manual to get a feel of the menus ?

I've done quite a bit of homework on this and the US guys have been fitting them and sound quality is meant to be good so I don'tsee any oissues there. The only problem people had was the Bose rear speakers but there is a work around for that and have the parts, the other was the arial and there is an adapter for that issue which I have also.

The advantages over stock is emence allowing for so much more flexibility unlike the stock unit or even the 2015 unit.

And there will be custom and excise to pay on top of that probably about £60 or there abouts....i bought a £500 unit from china when i had my bmw.the seller had some good reviews so took the plunge.when i finally got it,the aerial socket was broken,i even took it to a specialist and they couldnt do nothing..they wanted £90 to send back to china..wtf so after arguing it was sent to someone down south..still cost me £30 to post then a week later i was hit with a £96 bill from the customs! I learnt a valuble lesson that month...never again would i buy from outside the uk..but good luck hope it works out for you mate

Yeah I'm aware customs will want there pound of flesh but when you look at the cost of a 2015 unit and there not being much in it from the old to new I wanted more.

Risk: yeah there's risk and if it packs in I will have little fall back. If it works out fine I will everything I need and then some.

For those have Bose speaker issue this should get round the issue but will require the red and the yellow lead swap around.

I've only just seen it today getting in to the office and I just found out I did not have to pay important duty as they sent it as a monitor worth $50..... result.

Anyway I have to say it looks good loads of connection wires including an ipod connector and a canbus decoder and a 8gb micro card all reasy fitted.

I did make a book book on my order as I ordered a duel core unit and not a quad but they assure me there is very little difference in the performance, a little gutted on that but I will get on with it.

Here's some pics with all the bits and bobs.

hmm - also interested to see how this goes. Running the old RNSE in my 06 RS4 - screen is scratched and tried fitting X-Car link to get Bluetooth and IPOD connection However, I cannot get them working with the BOSE (connects but no sound) plus the Bluetooth module looks horrible. Desperate for a proper modern solution but at sensible money as getting fed up every time I get in the wife's evoque and am reminded how archaic my system is!

Here's the A6 unit but duel core so if you deal with them ask about quad core before hand also I used paypal for the security of it all, I have to say I paid twice due to a paypal glitch but they refunded the extra payment within 12hrs once I pointed it out so all good. just make sure you tell them what year car you have as I gather they make these for older A6 aswell.

I hate the RNS-e, maybe back in the day it was the B's & E's but now it's ancient and not very nice to use and I hate the gps and the lack of info when an Ipod is plugged in.

With this unit you can plug in a hard drive up to 1TB so no more need for Ipod (which I also hate).

You can also get this unit running the old microsoft software but this is dated and microsoft stop supporting it years ago but with the Android based unit there is a few site that support these units and write new ROM's for them all the time.

Week point with these units not necessary with the one I have bought as there are about 5 different types is the built in mic which can be fixed by plugging in an external mic (I have just found mine dose not have it :bash:)

The other two things are Bose rear speaker volume issues (have two fixes for that) the other is poor radio reception due to the complicated way Audi runs there ariel's which I hope I have a fix for that too.
