They require a spacer in between the calpier and the carrier

If you look on jhm website you can see in the pictures what they supply with the 380 kit

All this negative talk of the vw disc being bed because of unsprung mass but no mention of the 380mm weight and (more importantly) it's larger radius and poor moment of inertia?
Standard size rotors are perfectly adequate - pad choice is critical however.

the jhm ones are machined and the oem ones are cast and i think there is a weight difference in favour of the jhm ones

i think grooved vw ones would be better than stock but i want the front to match the rear :D

The larger radius is just as much of a problem as the weight because of rotational inertia.

You actually want the SMALLEST brakes possible that do not fade under your intended use and can consistently lock the wheel. Of course - small brakes don't look as good so it's a tough sell nowadays.

As I said above - pad choice (and to a great extent fluid also) is critical. I went through a lot of issues on my b7 due to my usage (a lot of 'ring laps and track days) but all were solved once I sorted the underlying issues with my wheels themselves, and fitted correctly specc'd pads and fluid. :)

Also braided lines make a big difference in pedal feel under hard braking. Well worth doing.

Also girodisc and jhm discs are quite a lot lighter than the stock 365mm discs despite the larger diameter. On the '6 the extra stopping power is nice but in terms of the lighter rs4 I agree with Ross that 380 is probably unnecessary. Maybe just finding a 365mm disc with a decent air gap and proper vaynes rather than the crap design on the stock discs.
