Just done the S4 to RS4 thing..

Post by ASC » Sat Jun 13, 2015 5:10 pm

Alright folks? Previously I've been a lurker/occasional poster in the B7 S4 section.

As the title says, I've not long sold my sorted B7 S4 and upgraded to an RS. I've been toying with this for months if not years but it all happened really quick last week. I hadn't even advertised my car and a buyer (good mate of mine) turned up out of the blue and then an RS came up for sale on here at the same time with the spec I wanted and it seemed like a good deal. Link to advert - viewtopic.php?f=63&t=115564

It has got big miles on it but it had an engine, fly wheel, clutch 30k ago under warranty which was a plus for me and it's also MRC'd with recent Tarox discs and pads. Oil cooler pipes done, driver's Aux Rad done, De-coke at MRC although that was 7k miles ago but it's still pretty lively so I assume it's not re-coked too badly! It's decatted with stock cat back but it's way too quiet. I'm used to decatted/Miltek non res on my S4 so I'll be looking into that. It's had a couple of shocks and re-gasses over the years and currently there's no problems with the DRC but tbh one of the first things I'll be doing is getting it on coilovers. It sits way too high for my liking.

Anyway I drove it up the road from Kent to Aberdeen on Thursday leaving Kent at rush hour (that was an eye opener!!) and the car didn't miss a beat all the way up the road. I stretched its legs a few times, I'm well impressed with the torque and it just keeps revving! :P Very addictive.

So far the car's not moved from the drive. I've given the interior a good going over, treated the seats and gave it a good wash. It does need a little TLC however, couple of stone chips here and there and a couple of scratches, usual wear on driver's bolster, faded RS badge on the steering wheel, front wheels are curbed but nothing really bad. The only problem it's developed since getting back is the alternator belt is a bit noisy, hope it's just the belt! It's going into a local specialist on Tuesday for a full health check anyway. :?

I can't wait to start modding it and getting it back to it's former glory. I've got a long list of things to do to it... that is if I get the green light from the specialist that it's not a lemon!

Here's a couple of iphone pics of my old S4 and a few of the RS.

Cheers
Ayron

It's screeching and I can see the belt looks very worn. I'm pretty sure that's where the noise is coming from..

On another note, my mate just scanned the car and apart from some minor codes it threw up this -

000816 - Knock Sensor 2 (G66)
P0330 - 008 - Malfunction - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00101000
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 255
Mileage: 157066 km
Time Indication: 0

Freeze Frame:
RPM: 3436 /min
Load: 16.1 %
Speed: 3.0 km/h
Temperature: 64.0°C
Temperature: 30.0°C
Absolute Pres.: 1020.0 mbar
Voltage: 13.843 V

According to Ross-Tech the causes could be -

Knock Sensor 2 (G66) Short to Ground/Plus/Open Circuit
## Knock Sensor 2 (G66) improperly torqued
## Knock Sensor 2 (G66) faulty
## Engine Control Module faulty

Hopefully just a duff sensor or needs re torqued??

Congrats on the purchase matey, I've seen a few cracking pictures on Facebook over the weekend there. Look forward to seeing this.

I would be inclined to clear DTCs on VCDS and monitor that one. I've had a few 'intermittent' codes recently and after deleting, they didn't return, but I monitor once a week anyway. Mind you, if the knock sensor is easily accessible, it wouldn't hurt to torque her up.

Thanks Ellis. Yeah I spent the whole weekend on it gutting it inside and out so it looks 10 times better already. Dropped it off at NE Motors this morning for a once over. Finger's crossed the list isn't too long!
Gary cleared the codes last night so I'll ask him to check again in the next week or so.

Cheers

You'll have to give me some cleaning tips. I'm handy with a bucket of soapy water but that's as far as it goes.

If you're ever stuck for VCDS, give me a shout. You'll have to excuse the pink laptop though. I promise it's not mine :biggrin2:

There's been another Sprint Blue saloon around recently. OE56 plate IIRC. They are taking over the world up here.

Common as muck, everyone's got one.. My S4 was more exclusive! lol

Aye once I get mine back we'll need to get a meet sorted out so I can show this thing off. Can't wait to get stance done, it looks like a tractor at the moment!

Been looking into RS4 badge for the steering wheel and the S button replacement, there's a good right up on here Gary pointed me towards.. Can't believe how much Audi want for parts though.. Think I'll just dig the airfix model paint out!

there is also another Avant 56 plate I've seen coming in and out beside my work with window deflectors, so possible there is 2 avants and 3 saloons kicking about

I know the other avant, just been talking to the owner on FB actually, same spec as mine with black optics and the wheels are also dark, either black or dark anthracite.. My twin basically.

Yeah keen for that idea.

Surprised I didn't see more B7's at the GT Scotland meet yesterday. There was an ultra-clean Imola Yellow RS4 on show with B8 wheels but that was it. Spotted someone taking a video of my departure through the woods; hoping that pops up online somewhere :)
