Second car lucky!!

Recently traded my previous phantom black saloon... which blew up on my driveway on start-up (when cranking over) as a chain broke :audibash: , this happened when I moved it closer to the house to hoover it out ready to trade-in, this was a bad day... had a tear in my eye! especially as I'd already put a deposit down on another! I spoke to the garage I was dealing with... they asked for an extra £1000, which I thought was ok! They delivered the new car and took mine away on a trailer. Fantastic car as they all are...

Couple of points I'd like to mention to you more experienced guys, I only drove my previous car for a couple months over the year I owned it as it had a timing chain rattle from the start!

I've only had it for a couple weeks now, and I did some miles in it over the weekend, I noticed the following things;-

When traveling in for example 3rd,4th,5th or 6th gear, and whilst applying just enough pressure on the accelerator to maintain the cars speed I can feel a kind of jerking sensation as if the engine is misfiring?

Sometimes when accelerating hard up from 2000rpm upwards, as the revs rise I can feel power fluctuations?

The other day I was accelerating hard and revved the engine upto around 6000-7000rpm to feel the valve timing change- which it did! But I saw a couple of puffs of blue smoke behind me in my mirror!

Are any of the above things normal? The car has full Audi service history, and has had oil changes every 10K, 66K on the clock, 07plate.
There's no warning lights on, nor is there any fault codes with vcds.

Look forward to your reply's,

Many thanks
Andy

The first 2 could be related to the MAF sensor but I would have expected this to throw up a fault code.

It is possible that 1 or more of your coil packs could be on their way out, it's also possible a spark plug could be failing, both symptoms cam occur without throwing any error codes.

As Pete said MAF could also be a likely candidate.

Regarding blue smoke, what fuel are you using as it was noted on another thread that for some bizarre reason Tesco 99 smokes more than V Power, and having tried both fuels I can say it's true.
It could also be down to carbon build up, has it had a carbon clean done ?

Have you tried the Italian tune to see if that will shift some of the build up in the exhaust system?

Hello guys, thanks for the reply's!

I use V power shell fuel
I'm not aware of it ever having a carbon clean, is it abit like plaque around teeth? but around the valves?

Doesn't sound serious then anyway!
It had plugs 6k ago at 60k

I was wondering if it could be the flaps in the manifold?

Perhaps at some point I should get the manifold off to see for carbon in the intake ports?

Thanks again

Regards
Andy

Have you checked for any Vac leaks, they can cause a multitude of problems without any error codes.

It could be spark plugs or the coil packs giving a misfire, but my main concern would be the smoke. If you saw it in the mirror, then it's more than a puff. Was it black smoke or whitish grey? If it's black, then it'll be over-rich fuelling. If it's whitish grey, it's oil in the cylinder bores, and the usual culprits are worn valve guides or piston rings. The oil entering the cylinders will lower the octane rating of the fuel and this can also cause hesitations and misfires. Did you buy the car with a warranty?
