Standard too stage 2

Post by Harris. » Sat May 23, 2015 12:46 am

Hi who has gone to Stage 2 ? And it the difference noticeable ???

Only ive just had a bug eye Subaru hand my arse on a plate to me and driving home got me thinking . More power may be needed :bash:

It would go to MRC . ive heard about de restricting the gearbox also ?? whats involved and what are the gains

Ill be doing the rear dics and pads in the next few weeks as the rears look like there falling apart , so anyone know the place to get these from ?

Should have all been done in the winter so I could enjoy it this summer .

Stoke Audi are normally pretty good price wise for brakes so I'd give them a shout for your rears.
In terms of the stage 2, yes it it massively noticeable but a lot of that is down to it giving you full torque in the low gears and sharper throttle response so the driving experience is really improved. Prob best you get a health check done at MRC to see what yours is pushing out, you could easily be down on power and this could be through carbon build up or even a vac leak. Mine never used to feel that quick and a quick go on the dyno revealed it to be only pushing out 340hp, MRC worked their magic and when I picked it up it was around the 430 mark and it transformed the car.
Of course you never know what goodies that Subaru has had done to it, you know how tuneable those jap cars are.

My mates relatively standard scoob pulls 12.9 qtrs and it's about 320hp
Runs out of steam though. One before bug eye so probably a bit lighter...
I wouldn't be surprised if like said above your mid 350's.

It's crucial to stir the box as you probably know.
I've been surprised by a few cars but I'm expecting too much to plant it in 4/5/6 at 3k revs and pick up decent pace.

MRC time it is then ,ill call them Tuesday . Is the standard setting on the box 250 pound ft ? and what does it go upto after ?

The Subaru was tuned ,full of fancy gauges and blow off valve fitted . I did catch him in 3rd but feel the Rs4 needs more ,so that's what ill do :blackrs4:

trust me those jap cars are like video games their tuning limits are endless and off the chain, let me know what MRC say, i.e. what you had done, cost etc

Had mine done in Jan. Car is a mile better but having said that, only made 330bhp so was running terrible. I don't know how much of my new car is the carbon clean, stage 2 map or vac leaks fixed. Mind, never rated the subaru much unless I was up against a poor spec. Made relatively easy work of a bug eye one before my car was in for the MRC tune. It's also hard to tell but comparing it to my TME Evo 6 which is knocking on around 300bhp and weighing under 1300kg, the RS4 would take it in all areas apart from round corners.

To compare further, my brothers astra vxr was holding very well low down, my cousins cooper s roadster works, a 55 plate S3 also were an annoying pace but after a certain speed which I won't mention it's a completely different ball game as often elaborated on here. I have often got the feeling that on occasion, people in lesser cars have gone away thinking their car is almost as quick as a RS4. They aren't ideal for road use in reality at least not here.

No mate, made the silly mistake again of getting one a bit too nice to track. One of only 212 in red worldwide apparently and that was 15 years ago :|

I'm an idiot Marc, I really am.

Looks like you're just building a dream garage. Soon you'll be able to write a real £100k garage thread on PH.

I had a full carbon clean, manifold and stage 2 map earlier this year and it is as most say a different animal, the throttle response when the sport mode is pressed is instantaneous. Worth every penny.

I had a play with an EVO 6 last weekend down south, it looked like it had been fettled, he booted it off a roundabout onto a dual carriageway I'd already selected second and duley obliged, he was in front of me as we entered the roundabout then we both nailed the throttle, I pulled a full car length on him in second then up into 3rd I was accelerating past him, I'd gained about half a cars length in front before we had to slow for traffic. :biggrin3:

I used to run a Classic Impreza STI with around 330bhp, around a track the Scooby was a better car to abuse (plus cheaper to fix if it went tits up) yet on some of my favourite roads the RS4 is in a different league, more useable and more accurate to place into sweeping bends, corners, also the linear throttle response helps as your not battling boost or lag.

I had a little go against one (before stage 2) which was on 400hp and honestly, it was pulling on the rs4 easy. From 30mph in second he got from behind me, to half length a car in front by the time 3rd gear was ready. Evo's at 400/400 are bloody quick! The steering racks on them are so quick and responsive. I really think my rs4 would struggle on the twisties against my standard Evo.

What's the cornering ability like of your standard Evo compared to the 3.0 M3? Similiar power and weight IIRC.
