Help Needed Please, ESP Light on

Post by androidmarrs » Tue May 05, 2015 5:15 pm

Looking for a bit of help and guidance.

I have a orange ESP light on the dash (The car with the 2 squiggly lines). It my be coincidence It came on after I was over taking a another car and I hit the rev limiter.
When I got home I read the code which was:-
00257
ABS inlet Valve: Front Left (N101)
----------------------------------------
sporadic 004-No signal/communication

I don't have rosstech vcds just a plug in fault code reader (Quicklynks T55 scanner). Would the proper VCDS give anymore detail to the fault?

I reset the fault code and the next time i used the car the light came on again while reversing out the garden.

It came up with the above code again and another one:-
18265
Load Signal: Error message from ECU:P1857

The car never went it to limp mode during any of the faults, it just drove normally.

Need a bit of advice on where to start. Has anyone else ever experienced this problem?

I did find this:-

Fault code
00257
ABS inlet valve, front left -N101
Possible causes of fault
- Open circuit or short to positive/earth in wiring between ABS hydraulic unit -N55 and control unit -J104.
- Inlet valve -N101 defective.
Fault remedy
- Perform "Electrical check" , Perform test steps 1 and 13.
If no fault is traced by performing the "Electrical check", test all wiring and connections for intermittent loose contacts.
If the fault cannot be traced by any of these steps, fit a new control unit.

Where are the wires located that are required to be checked? Where is the inlet valve?

Thanks in advance.

Get a scan done with VCDS before spending any money, that will give you more detail about the fault codes than a generic fault code reader.

I'm based in South Ayrshire Scotland.

Will check with the local garage tomorrow as they do diagnostic work.

Got a check done at my local place with the Vag Com. It came up with an hydraulic engine mount that is faulty. New one ordered £211 (ouch!) Also came up with an intermittent fault in the ABS system but no real details.
As a first pass we decided it best to change the brake pedal switch as this may be causing the ESP fault. Switch was only £13 from the stealers so a cheap place to start. Will get that Friday and hopefully fitted over the weekend and will take it from there.

Yes it's worth doing brake light switch.

Have a read through these two threads:

Had the car at my cousins garage in Kilmarnock and done a bit of testing and the MAF appears to be faulty. Got a new one to pick up from Audi in 2 weeks when I get back onshore. So once I fit that and clear the codes hopefully that will be it sorted.

So all in the emission light was on, traction control light.
Fault codes:-
MAF intermittent fault.
ABS inlet valve front left N101
