Oil for top up

Sorry guys I know this has been posted a million times but am in the middle of a 300 mile trip and oil light has came on. Due a service in a month and don't know what oil was in the car previous as only got it before Christmas. What should I top up with?

Most run on Castrol Edge 5 - 30 fully synthetic
Costco today I purchased 4 Ltrs @ £25 inc vat

Would it be ok to top up with oil mentioned above not knowing what's in it atm? Cheers

That's a good price! Mine is due a service next month so I'll go and grab some over the weekend.

Unless you can contact the garage of the last service, or you when it was last serviced, and/or by checking how many days left to next service you could then determine if it's on a 12 month or 24 month service plan, ie different oils
Have you checked your rear storage compartment for an oil container,? all RS drivers have to carry oil, well all B7 owners do

Never have a bad word said about asda again! Christ it's scary in there, don't intend to ever go back.

How much was it in there? It's grim in ASDA so won't go unless needed.

Always carry a L or two around with me.
As above Castrol Edge 5W-30 is the standard.
Just slightly OT, but how much oil do these tend to burn, I'm finding about 2L a year?

You can get 8l on eBay of this oil £63 delivered. Not sure if it's cheaper elsewhere

Thanks for the costco tip , just picked up 5 x 4L of Castrol edge 5w-30 for £25.91 per bottle, took 5 bottles so that got enough for this oil change plus next years.

Went to Costco today myself and got 3x4L, was about to pull the trigger on the same thing for £34 each on eBay so saved a few quid thanks to R1RS4
