Top arms

Post by andyg72 » Mon Apr 13, 2015 7:04 pm

Mine developed I slight knock so took to my local specialists and fault is a worn upper front top arm
part number 8eo 407 506q £112.26 ( not fitted )

Not sure if I'm right but are theses common issues ? If so my question is would it be worth uprating the bushes opposed to replacing the arm it's self anyone know the cost of this ?

Cheers

See thread below this, mine has also cracked so I got power flex bushes £83 delivered .

Went to remove the arms today and the ball joint is also worn so ill be getting new arms cutting the standard bush out and replacing it with the power flex bush . Lifetime warranty and ive fitted these to most of my cars and never had a problem

Common issue , yes they are as the standard bush is able to twist which splits it .

Andy, is it not worth fitting adjustable ones allowing you to adjust camber as yours is lowered.

Andy, tell the truth, when you heard the knock did you feel a bit queezy and suspect DRC problems? I know I would have done.

Look at this thread viewtopic.php?f=35&t=108536&p=663908#p663908 MikeFish linked it in Harris' thread and its worth a read. Honestly I really wouldn't bother polybushing, there are definitely adverse affects. I've even been recommended to avoid on a track car. The link recommends AllGermanParts, who are a great company and Jason will look after you. My opinion is buy OEM (Lemforder) or Meyle. The latter coming in a bit cheaper and having a four year warranty. I've fitted them before and can recommend. I also know a lot of other RS owners that have as well. They come highly regarded.

If your car is lowered, you got to fit adjustable top arms,if not your just going to eat the inner edge of your tyres up.
Messed up 2 sets of tyres on my b7, first thing I did once fitting the H&R's on my b8 was do the top arms, it feels more precise too with the camber set up properly

While on the r32oc I was told I must fit rear adjustable tie arms due to tyre wear on my lowered R32 @ a cost of £300 plus I never did and didn't suffer to bad with it so I'll see how this set of tyres go and make that decision on that .

Out of interest what did they cost you ?

£370 plus fitting:

If you are forking out for new top arms anyway they are about the same price as OEM ones without discount. Fitting will cost you the same. If I'd had known i needed some at the time,it would have cost me barely any difference to the OEM one I had fitted. Now it's gonna cost me £500+

You will suffer badly with front tyre wear, mine whent to the metal, rest of the tyre was ok,I know first hand you will regret not getting the adjustable arms if you need to change anyway, however your choice

Longevity, squeaks, harshness, unwanted cabin noise, etc, etc. All subjective, but lots of info out there and lots of people complaining that they don't hold up. IMO it's not really what you want on a road car like an RS4, it's not an out and out hardcore monster that you're happy to compromise with, it's a car that blends luxury and performance. OEM/Meyle arms aren't really that expensive by comparison anyway, so personally I'd much rather go down that route and you'd notice a difference in feel replacing all the front arms.
