Was doing a little work on the car yesterday.
1 of them on the list was an oil change.
First task. Take the Carbon trim off and un-bolt the mounting bracket. Obviously, i dropped one of the two bolts down into one of the many crevices that are the rear of this engine. Anyone know a part number that i can order for this? Pictures below.
Second. After getting the under tray off.. I spotted some kind of oily substance. Didn't look very fresh and not a massive spillage but a bit concerning. From what i could see, it came from the small pipe/hose pictured below.
Does anyone know what this is? It almost looks like it tracks to the power steering/AC radiator. The oil didn't have any smell to it.
Also tried to change front discs. The current ones are original. 7 Years and 50k miles in. Broke a ratchet trying to undo one of the 21mm bolt heads attaching the calliper to upright. a 450lb/ft impact gun couldn't help them either.. Common issue? Look's like i'm gonna have to get a garage with a blow torch and a large breaker bar to crack them and hope they don't shear!

This is why I pay someone else to do it.
Re: Maintenance Troubles..
The bolt will cost pence from Audi, rather than running round trying to match it
Not about the hose
The bolts I used a 3/4 drive socket set with 5ft tube, sweet
If you take the brake pads out (good luck) and push the Pistons back, remove the disc retaining screw I think there's enough clearance to remove the disc's,
Before doing any of this I would spend some time reading the threads on disks and calliper servicing it will save you hours and more importantly £'s
Good luck, you will need it !

Lol I started optimistic.. At hour 6 when I had only got oil, spark plugs and power steering fluid done I did start to question it though..'MikeFish wrote:This is why I pay someone else to do it.
I do like doing some stuff myself, at least I know it's been done right.
Yeah I was gonna go to Audi anyway it would just help to have a part number so I can tell them to throw it in when I get the MOT done.R1RS4 wrote:The bolt will cost pence from Audi, rather than running round trying to match it

That's useful to know.. Pads were pretty straight forward when I did them last time.. They should be clean enough..
With the amount of force you had to put in mind. Maybe I'll grab a bar myself and have another go.. After the ratchet broke and the gun didn't do it I thought it would be a garage job.
Nice one

I removed my calipers the other week and they were a bit tough! I just used a breaker bar and a big <beep> hammer! Put tension on the bar, upwards on the drivers side and downwards on passengers side and then just whack the <beep> out it! Remember to keep the tension on the bar! The hard shocks should see them loose!!
